Hi all, im new to the porsche scene, mainly into aircooled veedubs!. Just put a deposit down on a 944S2 which i travelled to Skipton to view yesterday, it is very nice indeed.

Please can anyone tell me where the best independant porsche specialist is around these north easterly parts, i'm in gateshead.

Welcome to the forum, hope to see you at some of the clubs meetings/events.
I have not used him yet but Tom Ferguson on Scotswood road comes highly recommended. Redline Racing at Teeside did my sports exhaust and made a very good job of it. Sure there will be lots of advice from other members.

Hi Mark, you might want to try Redline Racing, they are in Middlesbrough if you are from that way, a lot of our members in the Tees area go there. I live in Houghton le spring and use Northeast Autocare who have looked after my Porsches for the last five years (for work I can't do myself) and are excellent, It depends on what you are after, a lot of specialists are very expensive for what is quite basic work, for a car the age of yours don't be afraid to weild a spanner yourself from time to time, opinion is divided on this I know but once they get to that sort of age (mine are '83 and '86) as long as receipts are kept for the history, photos taken etc its worthwhile having ago yourself.

I had 944S2 and used Tom Ferguson.He is moving from Scotswood to Gateshead shortly, should be handy and worth getting to know him.
I have 2 sets of unused brake pads and a set of plugs left over.Let me know if interested.

Just to update people on Tom Ferguson, I use him to keep the service books with a complete history (although I have just renewed the rear discs, handbrake pads and rear pads on the 928 myself. Tom has a good knowledge of the problems with the older cars that is both more extensive and a lot quicker on the recall than the Porsche Centre can hope to match, even though the last are giving discounts and so are somewhat cheaper nowadays (Tom had no less than 6 928s hanging around on Monday - and only 1 was mine!). He hasn't moved as yet, but should be somewhere behind the Gateshead Stadium if he does.
