Anyone have a preference as I the flame has gone out in one of mine?

Standard MY00 headlights.

Fitted some Philips ones last year which I've been v happy with. Think they were called vision plus and are suppose to be 30% brighter than std ones. The lamps look slightly blue but the light is a bright white. You'll have to change both so they look even but come in packs of 2 anyway (with replacement 'side' lamps as well). I'm sure somewhere on a previous post I've seen a website recommended for buying lamps on line.

I bought Osram Silverstar from --> HERE <--
50% brighter so it's claimed, and various magazine tests have rated them the best.
You don't want the "blue" things as they are not the brightest - these are.

www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk (also in the link above) have always posted the same day - you get the bulbs next day.
A lot cheaper than the "High Street" as well.

If I understand correctly, these seem to be xenon bulbs for replacing regular bulbs. Are there any implications to using these in standard headlamp system instead of a xenon system?

I'm not sure the "Xenon" descriptor is totally correct - these are just standard shape and size bulbs with a different gas mixture than the standard halogen. They are not the high-voltage HID lamps as used on "litronic" dip-beam.
My car has the litronics - but the main beam are standard H7 bulbs. I replaced the H7's with the silverstar ones as in my first link - they are definitely brighter. I have also been using them in our "other" car for a year or two, and they are tremendous compared to the candles that FIAT supplied...

thanks for the clarification Mark. I think it's about time I equipped myself with a spare set of bulbs and the Osrams seem to be the best choice.

I was wondering as I thought that you guys had Litronics. So Litronics is just for dipped?

Just dipped, but the neat thing is that when you switch to main beam, the dips swivel up a few degrees to help fill-in the pattern. Really clever and fun to watch [:D]

No wonder you get headaches [:)]

Lamps are ordered and you will have a fully illustrated article for the next issue..

Job done!

Took about 10 minutes reading up and the another 10 for both sides.

The hardest part was unscrewing the plastic nut holding in the carpet!
