Hi everyone,
after some 12 years looking and then putting the purchase off for one reason or other have recently purchased an 911sc cabriolet. The car is lhd as we live down in the South of France near St Chinian ( great wine country). Are there any more members who visit or may be have a holiday home in the area? One further question, the car was inspected by Peter Morgan prior to purchase who questioned the longevity of the clutch, I am having this changed. The problem I do have is that engaging 1st gear other than from starting from standstill has resulted in a very concerning( if expensive) crunch, using 2nd does not pose the same problem.

Floatingjimi,

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong... but, I think like most gearboxes first is the only gear without a synchromesh, which means you have to be at standstill (or coasting 'extremely' slowly) to engage first gear without expensive crunchy, grindy noises. I take it you're whacking it into first gear on those uphill hairpins in the mountains?!

Have fun and welcome to many happy years of Sc ownership.

1st gear does have synchromesh on first gear and it can cause problems in time eventually ending up with a 'baulking' effect as you go to that gears gate.
