[:)] Good Afternoon All

My name is Des Lynam - (Yes I Know)

We live in Sheffield with our two mountain dogs.

I will buy my first ever Porsche in May 2005 , read all the books, loved Porche since I can remember.
Ive decided on a 964, C4. Ive read all about the supposed problems/issues. To me Its a fantastic first Porsche but would like your point of view.

I am sure I will in future ask lots of questions you have answerd before but would apreciate your advice etc.

For example:

I have called into Strasse in Leeds on a couple of occasions - seem helpfull with lots of advice. are the as good as the sound/look?

Are cars for sale in the porsche post generaly sold by members?

Have a look at: www.porsche964.co.uk

Give yourself a few hours!!

Also subscribe to: www.titanic.co.uk/964

There's a huge 964 fraternity on www.rennlist.com too.

Hopefully your questions will be answered there!!

Great choice of car, BTW, I had a 964C4 for 6 years, sold to a lady in Aberdeen (hi Debs!!) at 80,000miles three years ago -it now has 118,000miles on the clock.

Welcome from me too Des. It's hard to tell if most cars advertised in PP are from PCGB members but one would assume so. Ring HQ and ask them , maybe they have figures that can prove one way or the other. Strasse have a good reputation and only this summer I spoke to two satisfied customers. A 964 C4 with the bugs sorted will be an excellent car. Bear in mind maintenance costs will be slightly higher compared to a C2 if the four wheel drive system develops faults; certainly a car most sophisticated 911 owners would be proud to own.

I think you'll find they put NM at the end of any advert placed by a non-member. If that isn't there, then they're a club member.

Hi, I've just bought a 964 C4 Cabriolet and the only way I can describe the feeling it gives me is that it's like dating a film star!! What I mean is I'm nervous before every ride, I get jealous glances everywhere we go, I can't believe that I've got her, shes the last thing I think about at night and I'm constantly worrying wether I'll be able to keep her!! (I have a jealous wife)

I've owned two 944's before and I loved them both and they were fantastic cars( and in alot of ways were alot better than the 964) but I never felt like this before. not about a car anyway.

I've not had the car long enough to give you a helpful evaluation, but if you like i'll give you an update around Christmas time.

Kind regards,

Anthony.

No offence to Strasse, or any other dealers, but you will get ALOT more for your money if you buy privately. A £17,999 dealer car is a £15k private car - and you can really freshen up your new £15k private car with the extra £3k.

IF, however, you are not a confident car buyer, or DIY'er, you may want the comfort of being able to go back to a dealer with any issues.

If you are serious about buying, go drive as many 964's as you can - you will see for yourself the huge variations between seemingly similar age/mileage cars.

Good luck!!

Hi Anthony

Thanks for the reply. I would apreciate your initial report, hope she lives up to your expectations.
Best Regards
Des

Let the wife drive the car !
Okay, I know many will reply 'WHAT?', but it really works for me.
She loves the car, so won't let me ever sell it (downer!).
Also, I bought it when my daughters were 5mths & 2yrs, so don't ever sell because of kids, they love it too !!
I find the funniest is peoples reaction when you tell them it's 14yrs old & how little they could buy one for !
Life IS sweet !

ENJOY IT, or as they say.......
