Well, not a brand new member, I joined some time ago and have asked a few questions, but every time I do that somebody asks me for photos. So today I went out to take a few.

So this is my '83 944, blue, bought for £870 off eBay in the winter.

There are a few scratches and rips, but overall the car runs relatively smoothly.

I recently got some new tires (quite cheap at Camskill) as the back two needed replacing, but after putting them on today I think they're too thin. See below the standard 195/65/15 at the front and the new 195/50/15 at the back. I'm thinking of going back to 65's to be honest..... What tires do you use?

Also after the guy changed the tires he gave me one of the caps in my hand and said "oh, it won't stay back in".. Any ideas what's the problem, were there some bits inside the cap that he had broken off?

Looks nice, same colour interior as mine.

As for the centre cap it looks like half of it is still inside the wheel and the cover has broken off.

Hi
Car looks great - mine an '83 with a similar interior.
The cap is all there just separated! the 3 studs in the outer should be rivetted to the pressed steel bit that is still in the wheel.
TBH I think its had it. The bit left in the wheel looks so bent it would be very difficult to do anything with AND keep the shape and size to be a push fit in the wheel.
Also not sure how you would reattach the bits, as the studs left dont look long enough to pean over again.
You may have to take the wheel off to drift the remains out - steel and aluminium have a certain attraction, especially with water and a bit of heat!
Should be able to get another one easily, loads of breakers should have them - I have a spare, but it is pretty marked.
Enjoy it
Mike

Looks like Copenhagen Blue to me - is the paint code LY5B?

Tyre size info is here - a useful site! http://www.connactivity.com/~kgross/FAQ/944faq13.html

Enjoy!

Lo there , my immediate thought was like the colour straight away. Baring in mind you are in London , hopefully I'll get to see the car at an event or meet in the near future.

Best of luck with her.

Mas

Thanks Mas. Not too many 944s in London, I've seen just two in South London so far. I'll definitely be up for a meet, I'll keep an eye for the next one.

Mine cost about £250, for the set I think, and are the biggest you can get on.

I got my car with 215/55/15s which I didn't like. I also have 15mm (I think) spacers on the rear.

The paintwork certainly cleans up nicely [:)] Thanks for the pics.

I would definately switch back to the standard size tyre, it looks very odd with that rubber band fitted and will lower the gear ratio somewhat.

Definitely Paul, the rubber band look isn't great.

Any recommendations on tyres by the way? There are quite a few options:

The tyres from the above brands get that much more pricey at that size though, an extra 20 or 30 quid each.
Having said that, the Toyo CF1s in size 215/60/15 are reasonably priced at £80. Will probably go for those..

Falken always get a good review on 944's and Camskill list them in 215/60/15 at £49 each

Wow what a car for the money! I have a real soft spot for the interior of the early cars. I prefer the centre console, the middle of the dash with the three guages, the caracterful 80's instrument cluster with the reverse rev counter etc I'm annoyed they didn't keep it for the turbo it would have been very Lotus Esprit.
