Hi all,

I'm looking to purchase my first Porsche - a C4S 911 - many thanks to all who put the 996 buying guide together - there is a lot of great information on this site for newbies like me.

After a long search I think I've found one that fits the bill - the only thing that is stopping me buying it is that it was fitted with a new engine under warranty a few years back.

My question to you all is - would the fact that it has had a new engine fitted put you off buying it ? - i'm thinking from a future value/originality point of view.

Thanks in advance.

for me in a word no

it obviously depends who fitted the engine but if it was Porsche I cant see the problem, that is usually what they do anyway nowadays no disassembly just crate the old one up send it to germany and a crated one returns, form a manufacturing point of view it reduces inconsistancy

these cars are not going to be priceless classics well not that i can see except some odd ones like the 996 gt3 rs

original matching numbers etc is really for your million pound ferraris, these cars are just like BMW's or vw's, their engine's go bang if it is a manufacturer's replacement it is surely a bonus

I would see it as a positive benefit.

My 996 C4 had a new engine at around 42k miles (IIRC) fitted by an OPC. You would have to be unlucky for a car to need a third engine!!

...if it's was done by Porsche, I think any of us would love a chance to buy a car with the security of an engine that's only done 32K miles! Good luck!
