Hi, i'm new to the forum, and i've just bought my first Porsche! Bought it from a smashing guy, Don Henshall, who is also a Forum member.
The car is a 996 registered in Jan 2001 in Arctic Silver with Boxter red leather interior. It also has the GT3 Aerokit body styling which gives it a fabulous look.
I'm not wealthy like most of you guys probably are, but for the first time in my life i've let my heart rule my head and hopefully averted a late mid life crisis (57).
I would like to ask one stupid and crass question.........in my youth i owned a number of MG Midgets and most owners acknowledged each other on the road. Is this something Porsche owners do????? I'd rather ask the silly question now and look stupid rather than on the road!!!!!

Hi Martyn, Welcome to the forum, its a great place, lots very nice and helpful people out there! Anything you might need to know then some one here will point you in the right direction :) I've had my 996 c2 cab for about 10months and totally love it :) I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine, as for giving other 911 drivers a wave.. well umm.. I used to do that when I had my Z4 and it was usually reciprocated have I have to say I don't find it works as well in my 911 :-( not really sure why but it doesn't deter me I still raise hand if I meet one :)
 
Yeah.. I always wave to other Porsches but very rarely receive an acknowledgement... no matter what the model. Used to be different many years ago but there we are. (Oh, and for the record - no, we're not all rich! I'm certainly not!) [:(]

Dawn.........Thanks for not making me feel daft in asking my wave question!! If you're ever on the M25 between 7:30 and 8:00 in the morning or about 6:30 to 7:00 in the evening between jct 6 and 9 i'll make sure i wave to you!!!
 
Maryn, your welcome but I guess I'm not likely to see you, I'm in Northampton and dont venture round the M25 unless I have too LOL..BUT if I do I'll wave if I see you :) So have you posted some photos of your new car ? Thats a lot of pictures Dawn! Looks beautiful, bet you spend a lot of time polishing it. I'm off out onto the driveway to clean mine now, then i'll post some pictures.

Have been driving 911s for 30 years - never had a new one BTW - and over the years the 'acknowledgement' by fellow Porsche owners has declined considerably in that time. True there are a lot more now and are quite common place compared with late 70's and 80's and I also know that some think the 'acknowledgement' to be a bit elitist. There are also the a few classic snobs who wouldn't 'acknowledge' more recent models. It would be petty to expect all other Porsche drivers to 'acknowledge' but I feel it's a shame that the practice seems to be dying out. Well come to the forum Martyn - there is so much help and advice available here and without it many members (including me) would find ownership much more painful and expensive. Dave Jones

Hi Martyn Great news on your new car,As to waving to other porsche drivers,why not if they don't wave back so what rise above it,there are many of us who do. Paul&Tanya
 
welcome Martyn, concur with views of those before me, I always wave and get responses 70% of the time, not rich either especially since my bank shares have taken a tumble[:mad:]
 
Martyn, Welcome. I will acknowledge many Porsche drivers but as Colin (also) says I rarely receive an acknowledement; But don't let this stop you. I hope you get as much enjoyment out of the 996 as I have out mine (although nothing compares to my first car a 924, which I still have). Very few of the people I meet at the club are wealthy - however I do consider myself "rich in spirit" [8|] and the forum is a great source of information. Richard is tireless in his support of the 996 register. Enjoy.
 
Thanks everyone for making me feel so welcome. I feel part of the family already. I've taken a few pictures so that i don't upset Mr Hamilton...........i just need one of my kids to help me get them from the camera to the computer and then i'll post them. My mate Alan warned me that the Forum was addictive............This is almost as much fun as driving the car..........but not quite! Martyn
 
I thought when I got my 911 that there would be a certain amount of acknowledgement from other owners, in 6 months I've not had one wave!!! Often wonder whether I pass anyone from the forum on my travels...
 
Welcome from another Martin... Good choice of colour. I'm not rich either... not since owning a porsche, that is (only kidding). Great car, I'm sure you'll enjoy it - as Richard said TTIUWP though. As for waving... I do, here in rural Suffolk, as there are not many of us about. I wouldn't if I lived in the M3/M4 corridor as they're 2 a penny there.
 
Hi Martyn, Welcom to the forum and I hope you have a great time with your acquisition. As a teacher I can assure you I am not rich, at least not financially!! If you are in the Farnborough Camberley area and you see an Ocean Blue 996 give it a wave, it may well be me. Mark
