Hello one and all.

Posted this on another page also, sorry just learning my way around.

I have recently purchased my first Porsche, a 2011 987 Boxster S. Absolutely love it so far, with only 1 PO and 14k still in superb condition.

I also was given a sealed PCM/Nav Database update set of discs, along with all the relevant licence keys etc. This PCM update is to version 3.0/3.1
Nav Database. The car car currently has PCM version 2.2 installed. So my question is, is it worthwhile updating ? Is the PCM 3.0 notably different/better in terms of functionality or screen presentation ? I think the nav stuff looks like its dated 04/2015 on the packaging.

I believe I would have to go to a main Porsche centre to have these updates installed ?

Any thoughts/knowledge appreciated

Chris

Welcome Chris

I previously had a 2009 Gen 2 987 S and around 2013, Porsche offered a special upgrade for PCM which I think was PCM3 - at a bargain price (for Porsche!) of £149. It meant you had full 7 digit postcode search for the first time which if you had the previous version you would realise what a huge step that was. The graphics were slightly improved. It came with the 3 discs.

If you have 7 digit postcode search, then I think you may already have PCM3 installed. Perhaps worth calling into your local Porsche Centre and they should tell you straight away. I’m sure there is a way of checking yourself which version is installed but it’ll be buried in the PCM manual somewhere. Hope this helps

Hi guys, thank you.

I know for sure I currently have PCM2.2, that can be checked via the info buttons on the unit in the car. And there is no full post code search facility on the Nav.

I haven't opened the discs and don't know if they contain just the nav data update or the update to the PCM 3 also. If so can I do it all myself ?

Hi Chris

Not too sure as they needed my car for at least a day to load the discs. I think it is quite involved. It didn’t take a full day mind you but they plan for the worst case scenario. Worth popping into your Centre for some informal advice - ask them to give you a price if you’re concerned you’re going to get a big bill. If you go with them, ask for a courtesy car and you might get a nice Porsche loan car!
