911 SC TARGA WITH GLASS ROOF

Interesting replacement for the standard fold up targa top - where did that come from? Got any pictures of it?

Have had 3 headlight stalk switches in my 29+ years of SC ownership though the fault was always with dipped - I guess because that gets used the most - did manage to fix one once where arcing in the switch had affected the contacts and fine emery paper solved it.

Welcome Mick, I've heard of the glass Targa roof but never soon one. Very expensive I imagine, don't leave it in the street unguarded! The light problem is almost certainly the switch but check the bulbs too. If you are going to get an auto electrician to look at the lights get him to check the wipers too.
Firstly though check that the shafts are not rusted, pull the wipers off the screen and see if there is a difference with no friction, it's possible that the motor windings are heating up, expanding and shorting out and drawing too much current, whereby the thing (forgot the name) that controls the speed reduces the voltage in order to protect itself. The only cure then is a new motor.

Dear Mick

Try Douglas Valley Breakers, Ebay, then do a google search on "Porsche Parts".

Parts on older Porsches can sometimes be sourced from the States at a reasonable price - e.g. Pelican Parts.

Sometimes some of the traders mentioned in "Porsche Post", or the other specialist magazines can come up trumps.

Sorry if any of the above information is out of date - it's been a while since I sold my 3.2.

Best of luck

HI PHIL

Do you mean the one in the engine bay. If so why would you want to put it back/ it's just a waste of space really.

If you do find a second-hand one but the motor's seized (common, apparently) there's a firm near Coventry that will sell you just the motor winding thingy. Much cheaper than a whole repcement motor. Forget what the firm is now, but will look up the paperwork if needed.

(although the front blower is pretty rubbish too, even flat out. Better than nowt tho')
