I have just sold my 73T that was running correct Carrera engine and lightweight suspension / brakes etc. and was a great project, but wasn't really suitable to the 10K miles or more I want to do in a year, and a few priority changes meant it had to go.

So what to replace it with....a 3.2 Carrera, 964, 993, and I tested out a 996 Turbo.....even got a deal worked on a pukka 964RS (but the mileage I do would kill the value).

I have always liked the shape of the 964, and when a contact on DDK / Impact Bumpers contacted to say his was for sale, the deal was done.

It is a late 1992 C2 manual in metallic midnight blue with black sports seat interior and comes with full stamped service book and all bills from new...all bound in a PCGB Record Folder.

It has recently had a couple of the usual rust spots looked at (windscreen base mainly) and received a full respray with glass out and all new rubbers.

There are two sets of Cup Wheels with Bridgestone SO2 for street and Pilot Sport Cup for Track....225/45 and 255/40

The icing on the cake is a newly fitted and superbly setup suspension by Jaz with Bilstein Dampers and Eibach springs to 'RS Spec' and factory RS anti roll bars.....very low but handles beautifully.

There is still scope here to personalise the car and take it closer to a RS Touring spec. over time, but for now I will get to know it a little better.

I will own another long hood one day as a stable mate, but for now the C2 is my P-Car experience.

Steve

I have done some track days over the years, and still intend to get back to Spa in 2011, along with perhaps Donington and Oulton or Cadwell and Snetterton :)

Also plan on doing a few RS Touring mods. along the way if appropriate, but keeping it reversable to stock if possible.

Ian

There's now quite a merry band of us (964 and 964RS owners) that do Oulton and Donington (now that it's re-opened) regularly. Sound like you'll fit right in [:)]. Keep an eye on this board and the 964RS board for details of group outings (and discounts [;)]). I haven't done Spa yet but if all goes to plan, I aim to tag on to next year's PCF extravaganza that the 964RS boys do each year.

[FONT=verdana, geneva"]Very nice Ian. I see also that you also have a factory sunroof delete option, if my eyes don't deceive me, and an RS rear bumper centre. RS clutch and flywheel has made a big difference for me..

Question: where did you get your Pilot Sport Cup's from? I've been trying to source a pair of rears rather than melt through my new Conti's which I nearly did at Silverstone yesterday..[]

Marcus

I have the sunroof (and it works :)), and the RS rear centre section as you spotted. RS clutch and flywheel maybe in the future when these need replacing.

The MPSC were on the track wheels I got with the car, but rears are toast so I will be on the look out also - Ian McLeod had a contact, and other thread posts suggest R888 Toyos as well.

Ian

I bought my Toyo R888s just over 18 months ago and 10 track days later they're still going strong, are still road legal and probably have another couple of trackdays left in the rears. Mind you, at least half of these days have been wet and therefore wear was minimal. Rear road tyres used to only last about 4 trackdays. I've got a set of half worn MPS cups to try out when the Toyos are finally worn out but I don't think I would trust them in the wet as much as the Toyos.

How did you go at Silverstone Marcus?

[FONT=verdana, geneva"]Maybe I needed to squint more at the photos Ian. Very nice all round though..

I've tried a few tyre suppliers online but each time I enter tyre sizes of 255 it always draws a blank and yet people tell me they use them - that's why I'm keen to know where from 'cos I can't find them..[&o]

Silverstone was awesome thanks Steve. The full new F1 layout with instruction from a current Carrera Cup champion in the Asia series. Had new Contis fitted last week (for the MOT), then promptly knocked off about 2,000 miles from them by giving it wellie round the circuit! After one session I felt the rear tyres and bits and peels were hanging from the tread - felt just like blu-tak. If anything I learnt how incredibly grippy the C4 964 was/is - it blew me away being encouraged to full throttle round some tight but fast bends where it didn't budge at all, and where I had to lean in against the lateral g-forces
[FONT=verdana, geneva"][FONT=verdana, geneva"]! There is new tarmac laid in much of the circuit and that made a huge difference. I even had all to myself the the pitlane garage that McLaren used.

I was advised by the instructor to get a pair/set of Michelin Pilot Sport Cup's as the nearest thing to track God, so the hunt is on! Other than that I did go through about half litre of engine oil
[FONT=verdana, geneva"][FONT=verdana, geneva"] - this at around 30 laps at 6k revs most the time..[FONT=verdana,geneva"][FONT=verdana,geneva"] Actually a tad surprised a bit the engine help up.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

[FONT=verdana, geneva"]Ah ha.. just been digging into the Michelin website and the Pilot Sport Cups don't come in either as 255 width or for 17" wheels - that explains it. So the next question is; what are people fitting then to their 964's - 265x35 R18's?[FONT=verdana,geneva"]
[FONT=verdana,geneva"]
Maybe I'm back to the Toyo suggestions then..

As you've found out the MPS cups are not easily available in 17 inch sizes. There ARE some about because they are the control tyre for the PCGB championship. These are all supplied by Protyre motorsport who are the official partner to the PCGB championship and PCGB trackdays. Ian McLeod has heard from a friend that there is another over the counter supplier and is trying to find out the details for us. BTW a full set is the best part of a grand!

Steve.

I asked and the source when worked all the way back through the various people involved in the purchase was Protyre. What's the issue with purchasing from Protyre? I've never had a problem purchasing from them either you just need to find out which trackday or event they are going to be at and get them to bring the tires along and either take them unmounted or they will fit them there and then. MSPC are not cheap as you say.

Ian.

Thanks Ian for confirming that it's Protyre that need to be contacted. I checked the Protyre website last night. To order tyres from them it appears one needs to choose one of their distributors as part of the ordering process but when the results of tyre choices come up, there's no option for the cups (or any track tyre for that matter). I think as you say that the only route to get the cups would be to phone them up and order them to be fitted at a PCGB trackday. I've actually done this before....ordered tyres from the trackday tyre supporter and gone along and had them fitted even though I wasn't booked to take part on the trackday. (In that case it was for ToyoR888s from Simply Tyres).

My local Protyre depot (Bristol) have no problems supplying and fitting 'track' tyres. The fully fitted/balanced price for the size I use on my rally car is better than DT's supply only price.

As Steve points out though, they don't list them on the online tyre finder thingy....so you will need to speak to them.
