hi new on here from Scotland , im saving for a boxster 3.2s is there anything in particular I should look out for when buying thanks

Where in the country are you? I would recommend that you come along to your local club night there are 4 in Scotland to choose from. Then you will be able to talk to someone who has or has had a 3.2 s. At Glasgow we have at least 3 former and current Boxster owners every month. They would no doubt be happy to chat Boxsters with you. ( esp if you buy them a beer )

If he buys beer at Sherbrooke prices he'll only be able to afford a 2.5 afterwards!

There's nothing different between buying a 3.2 and any of the other boxsters. Primary things to look for:
1. Any oil leaks underneath - could be a minor RMS leak (wouldn't stop me buying) or something more serious
2. Look for any white smoke which continues after a few seconds from startup (a big puff on startup is ok so long as it clears)
3. Check the roof works well
4. Check the spoiler goes up and down (there is a switch on the fuse panel which puts it up and down manually)
5. Check the brakes - they corrode easily, especially on the inner faces and can be expensive to replace
6. Check the gearbox feels smooth and there is no resistance getting into the low gears
7. If the clutch is very heavy or bites near the top of the pedal travel it may need to be replaced
8. If its near the point the belts need done, make sure they've been done

Apart from that generally reliable cars

Agree with what Greig says, but I would add the following.

Check the coolant pipes and radiators for any sign of leakage or weeping. As these cars get a bit older the coolant junctions tend to weep a bit, especially the transfer pipe. It's not catastrophic but it needs fixed, and can get expensive. Check the two front radiator pods to see if they are clear of old leaves and debris, if they aren't this causes both the coolant radiators and the air con radiators to corrode and leak. Also expensive. Check that the air con works too.

Brake disks rust very quickly, so check them carefully, and also have a good look at the tyres. Are they proper N rated premium tyres in good nick? Or are they a mixture of cheaper budget brands. This alone speaks volumes about how well the owner maintains the car. Meetings in Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow, with lots of Boxster owners at each one, so come along.
