New OPC

I posted the very same question on the Boxster forum at the beginning of the week. Feed back so far is a little sparse.

I took a trip out to the new Silverstone OPC the weekend before last. Looks as if they have made a significant investment in the site, although there was still some building work going on when I visited, and what looked like a temporary tarmac access road was still in place.

I was given a guided tour of the showroom and workshop areas by the very helpful and friendly sales staff - a huge difference to the old Arlington experience! (I' ll say no more on that subject). The workshop has a seating area for customers where you can watch the technician work on your pride and joy at close quarters!

I am due to take my 996 C4 Cab in this week for some minor warranty work. I am expecting a great service based upon what I have seen and heard already.

Keep us posted on the quality of service. I need to book my car in for it' s service in the next month or so.

I spoke to Porsche GB at Reading when I received my little notification slip of the change last month and they confirmed that some of the Arlingtons staff were offered contracts at Silverstone. Does anyone know if Ted in ' Parts' was one of them? Very decent bloke, knows his stuff and was the only one to always be helpful.

I dropped in last week and they didn' t have the parts department up and running.
The service centrelooked good though - with the glass wall to view the action whilst listening to the B&O CD player or watching the B&O television. They had a 964 and an early 928 in at the time.

The labour rate is £90 per hour but you should ask for a owners club discount.

Also, I heard today that HROwen, Hatfield has been bought by Porsche GB. Is this going to be a Mercedes-like forced take over?

Agreed Ted was " Mr Parts" and helpful...trouble is, I doubt they will be hiring the skillsets to look after the overwhelmingly large customer base that is " not" 996 / Boxster" oriented.

I mean no disrespect to owners of these cars, but until / unless OPC' s understand that there is massive market outside the new cars, that could be won, if only they invested wisely, then they will continue to lose revenue to the independants

I' d love to have an OPC stamp in my service book, If I didn' t think my car would be handled by someone who new less about my car than I did.

Whinge over..

Steve

£90 per hour ? does that include an all over body rub and sauna ? - Jeeez that' s expensive...if only I felt confident that because they were an OPC they took less time than an independant to sort out my issues, then I might well be interested in their service...but I don' t think so somehow.

Steve

Nothing wrong with giving the independents the opportunity to compete with official centres - old or newer cars. And looking at the annual turn over of an OPC (£33m allegedly at HROwen) I doubt whether they are bothered.
