NEW OWNER 911 3.2 NEED HELP !!

Hi to you all , Firstly bought a 3.2 Carrera Cabriolet 1988 and the heat is always warm, ( reading the posts it seems to be a common problem?). I need to do a bit of cleaning it up so i need a manual to help. Can anybody advise me on which book will cover my car the best?. Also I cant get the electric roof to open the previous owner connected the battery the wrong way and blew everything. He has bought replacement parts for us to fit and been told it will work, but still no joy, checked the fuses all seem to be OK, any ideas? Finally where is the best place to buy a couple of spare parts i will need to tidy my car up. Thanks in advance Lee

Hi Lee

Welcome to the joys of 3.2 ownership,

The best maual you can get is the Bentley Service Manual with it you will be able to fault find the problem ie check that you are getting power to the motor and switch etc

For parts I would phone around, numbers in the Porsche Post

I have some Porsche tech reports and wiring diagams specifically for replacing motors for the power hood which came with the Cab SSE me and my partener just got to add to our collection... If you have access to a fax machine, or let me have your email I can send you a copy..

Hmmm I wonder why he didn't try to fit the parts himself...and I wonder what else he damaged when he connected the battery the wrong way round....that should have blown fuses, not damaged the roof mechanism. I hope the price you paid in some way recompenses you for the potential size of the bill you may face to sort the roof (which you will have to do in order to sell the car on at a later date).

Good luck though! You may want to start with an autoelectrician to test that the wiring circuit is functioning correctly and to give it the once over for any other problems.

Hi Cheers for the help , I will check to find a Bentley book hopefully it can help me also the fuses seem OK, I cant understand how everything apart from the roof is working. Lets hope the bill isnt to much !!
Thanks

ZWHITEA , I have emailed you via the link, please post below if you havent received it, thanks

I'll email you the Wiring diagrams and the tech Information... Just checked the actual tech Info is not for the motors as these are standard, but for the control unit as it changed in 94 and the old ones are no longer available. The article details what Porsche say has to be done to fit a later 993 unit into a pre 94 car..

I'll send you 2 wiring diagrams (pre 89 and post 94), so you should be able to check all your micro switches, lift and locking motors etc.. These cars are great with the top down.. providing you keep them below 90.. else it gets a little windy......[:D]
