John,

Welcome to 964 ownership. On the question of checking the oil level, you'll not be surprised to find that it's a common question. Rather than go to any great lengths here it's probably better for you to follow this link over to the 964 FAQ on 911uk.com where it explains it in some depth.

There are a host of web sites dedicated to the 964, most of which get submissions from all over the World. The technical knowledge of owners is staggering so you'll not be short of assistance - whatever the problem.

Good luck with the car - and we look forward to the pictures.

Regards

Dave

Flat battery's are very common on 964's ......you might want to fit an automatic drain cut off ...see type 911 site (www.type-911.co.uk/) for details :

"Priority Start Battery Protector, automatically isolates and protects. £80.00"

You will never have a flat battery when the car is left ....

Over the years with 3rd party alarms and 3rd party radios being added to the cars and the ECU drain, the drain current is to high.

thanks ian
the cicumstances were a little strange , almost as though the alternator was'nt charging , car started perfect although abs light stayed on , thought i'd pull over after 2 miles but then the car would'nt start , managed to bump it of which got me home , have charged the battery since then and its been o.k but i hav'nt been to far since .
no dash lights have been on since .
regards john

Check the tension of the alternator belt ..it might be slipping .....or in some case melting due to heat build up of the hub bearing !...fit the RS upgrade if so ...did it to me .... see page three of my thread

hi
thanks for reply i will monitor the belt / hub temp , good photo's on your link by the way .
on another point ,
The speakers are original , but very poor sound quality , any recomendations on replacements ?

Still as was ....never replace them. I have the radio off most of the time ....I brought the car for the engine not the stereo!!! ;-)

sorry .
I have had the radio off most times but !
doing 70mph in a straight line is'nt exciting on my way to work nice to have some sounds .
But ! drove to where I take my dog for a walk this morn , walked for an hour or so , then set of home , took a 10 mile detour lovely bendy road , only listening to the engine note , windows down etc you know what i mean .
still would like good sounds on way to work
