New owner advice on service and storage

Good afternoon all.
I have finally convinced myself to get a new toy, my first Porsche was a 944 back in 1998 which I loved to bits but family etc later I have now bought myself a 2005 Carrera 2s cab with full Porsche history and only 18k miles.
I have given a thorough once over and the car is like new!!! My question is would I be better off sticking with Porsche servicing or would independent be as good (commercially would it be more valuable if I stick with OEM).
Secondly being a cabriolet is it better to be stored in my garage with roof up or roof down or somewhere inbetween?

Thanks for advice, great forum.

Hi

I have had several 911 cabs and always have the roof closed when in the garage. Stops spiders, mice and dust getting inside the car. When using the cab on nice days I will always put the roof up if I park even if it is for a few minutes. Stops litter louts using your car as a waste bin and also protects from bird doodoo.
Enjoy your cab if we ever get some decent weather.

With that age of car the value will not be affected by using a good/well respected Porsche specialist. Some private buyers may think that a full OPC history is more desirable but it won't make any difference to a dealer valuation.

Store the car with the hood up, keeping it under tension will stop it getting too creased.

If you are planning to keep for a long time like 10 years plus and do 1 to 2k per year there maybe a chance of a better value based on an ÒPC only history to a private buyer. But it's pretty unlikely as it's not a rarer model. Keep you roof up prolonged down periods just leave creases and marks in the roof fabric.

Morning!
As others have said an Indy is best at your cars age, even though it must still feel pretty box-fresh!
A good Indy can look after your car the same as, or in some cases, better than an OPC and if as I suspect you'll be getting it checked over yearly instead of 'just' as the schedule dictates, it'll work out cheaper and more cost-effective in the long term as well as looking a better prospect for a future buyer when you come to move it on.
As regards the roof, bear in mind that Porsche were so confident about the soft-top on the 997, they didn't bother offering a hard top to buyers at no cost as they did with the 996. I think it was available as an option, but hardly any buyers went for one as it'd mean having the roof down for long periods, and storing it with the roof up under tension was much better for longevity.

Thanks for all the comments. Despite the car only having covered 18k it has been serviced at the correct intervals and only ever Porsche dealers. The last service was Feb 17 and the car has done 400 miles since. So thinking an oil change at the very least yearly but am only planning on 2-3 k miles per Year.
