Hi All,

My names Ant, from Stafford, and I've just joined the club, and purchased my first Porsche, a 2005 987.1 Boxster S. Its the spec I was after, in the colour I wanted. Options I can figure out so far are (question marks where I'm not sure if they're options...:

19" Lobster Claws
Chrono
Sport and PASM
Heated Electric memory seats
CD Changer and BOSE
Xenons
Climate Control
Wheel crests
leather dashboard
rain sensor
auto dim mirrors
Nav
Phone
Red Calipers?
GT Silver Paint (LM7Z)
U2 Interior
Heated front Screen?

The car is a full history with 64k and I have two previous owners names from the manuals, Paul Adcock, and Anthony Hemans. The car was originally from Porsche Leeds.

Looking forward to driving it, and seeing you all at some meets!

I thought heated front screens were ford patented and not avaiable to other manufacturers?
ive certainly not had it as option or I’d have had it!!!
enjot your car

Welcome enjoy your car and PCGB.
Regards heated front screen never heard of a Boxster having a front heated screen.
Maybe you have seen a switch with a heated screen logo that's there for the rear screen.

Hi Ant,

Red calipers are standard for S-spec cars.

A heated screen was never an option, nor as far as I'm aware has it ever been available - and that's including the latest 718. As Dylan has pointed out, Ford has the patent but I've a feeling that a few other manufacturers are starting to adopt.

Get out and enjoy your new car in this fine weather..!

Jeff

cheers all,

there's definitely heater elements in the screen, and the rear screen switch is also there.... I'll get some photos later. Interesting!

Ford owned the patent on heated windscreens until 2011 after which it has started filtering down into other Ford own brands such as Jaguar (my XE has it for example). I assume it will also be picked up by non ford brands after that time.

My 987.1S has a windscreen clear button but this just switches the blowers to just the windscreen to clear quickly, it isn't a heated windscreen. What look like elements in the front window is actually the FM aerial receiver which a lot of cars have to avoid having an aerial.

Hope that helps :)

Not Porsche but my L&K Skoda Yeti has heated front and rear screens ..none on the Spyders as far as I know

What you’re seeing may be the radio arial elements.

so I've been quiet, even for me.

I stuck 3k miles on the car in a short amount of time, and picked up a load of stone chips in the process. However, I did a little digging on the car, and found it to be an original launch vehicle. I deceided to keep the mileage low, spoke to Porsche Leeds, and yes, they built the car, hence the massive amount of options.

Its now in the bodyshop having any niggles removed, and the wheels re-done. So it should be sparkly mint when i pick it up saturday. When I get it back, its time or a full detail and machine correction. In the other meantime I've bought a hack (pug 206 deisel) to get to work, site and meetings, and have stuck another 3000 miles on that since early December.

Expect photos of the car soon.....

That's interesting that the wires in the front screen could be for the aerial. My PCM has buttons for Front and Rear Screen and the front screen does have a line down the middle and then it curves round the bottom of the screen and around the outside edges.

I just assumed that it was a heated screen, just not using the patented ford technology. Which FYI has not expired my other car a Corsa has a heated from Windscreen using the same technology as the fords.

Pushing the front windscreen button does but the A/C on with full fans and full heat and does clear the screen relatively quickly however, which to be honest never made me doubt it didn't have a heated screen.

Aerial Elements does make a little bit of sense

I agree re the elements in the front screen - they could either be the radio aerial or even the phone module element.

spoke to the paintshop yesterday, and the car is painted, and aparently looking mint. Considering I've had most of the car done, this should be the case. Its now having its wheels done somewhere else, but I got the dread rusted collars, resulting in several of the bolts breaking..... new set is on the way, hopefully they get in tomorrow and i can get the car back this weekend. its been gone a month, so I'm really looking forard to getting it back!
