new owner just saying hello

hi all
just thought id pop in and say hello. just bought my first porsche after too many years with my nose pushed up against the show room glass....... my wife recons its mid life crisis!!!
anyway quickly moving on from that comment, i remember seeing a 928 in our street when i was about 11 it was brand new and they had just been released (some time in the seventies ) i always said i would own one and all the other kids laughed at me because only rock stars had one (the one we saw suposidly belonged to a local group called nazareth) so here i am 30+ years on and who is laughing now, well to tell the truth its still them as i bought a very nice condition but vandalised 924 and not a 928. i felt sorry for it, only damage is the glass hatch, windscreen and drivers window all bar the windscreen are supplied with it but not fitted yet. it also needs a new fuel pump which is also supplied.....all for £400
ive been restoring cars for years and this one is 99% cosmetic so shouldnt be long before im polishing it on the driveway.

so a very long winded intro and a big hello to all

gwyn aka 40+ year old bloke in a mid life crisis

Hi Gwyn, welcome along to the club and of course Porsche ownership!

Where are you based? You should come along to one of the meetings, you just missed tonights one at Dakota in South Queensferry.

Dunfermline here too, up near Tesco, shame you missed the meeting, perhaps you can make it next month?

Jane

I worked out you must be from Dunfermline/Crossford based on having a Nazareth member as a neighbour. My cousin lived in Crossford and lived next to one of the Nazareth members too. Perhaps the same one!

Enjoy your new car. You should try to get along to Dakota meeting next month - it's not all talk of sticky tyres!

Be sure to wave to other Dunfermline Porsche Drivers too, most of them do acknowledge you. If you see a red TVR you had better wave or you'll be in trouble (Jane has TVR now - sold her soul a couple of years ago!! [;)]) I'm not in Dunf anymore (moved to Bridge of Allan) but am still regularly spotted in Dunf, normally raiding Janes fridge!

Hopefully meet you soon.

Alison. [:)]

Hehe like a guessing game here, one of Nazareth lived in Charleston also, so who is taking bets??

The only Nazareth connection I have is that one of the members died in the palliative care ward run by a nurse friend of mine. Not such happy news. I did own one or two of their records when I was a kid!

Oh, and my wife's from Dunfermline "¦ better not forget that.

Welcome to the club Gwyn! Looking forward to seeing the 924 when you've got it finished. Or as "˜finished' as these projects ever are, anyway.

I think I still have a set of 944/924 window glass in the back of the garage if you need anything"”just shout.

not going to do anything to it restoration wise as its very clean as it is..... just want to spend my sundays polishing it on the drive

oh and thanks for the warm welcome everyone
wife still thinks its mid life crisis though........
dont care ive always wanted a porsche, no mater what kind just wanted a porsche.
when i was 21 i was in the navy and based in plymouth i ALMOST bought a 911, it was a 1972 in metallic blue it was £7500 back then (1988) but needed new heat exchangers which were over £2000 so i backed out and bought a golf GTI. 12 years ago before i left the navy i almost bought a 1979 924 off a mate but didnt like the checked interior so this is third time lucky! a non running non mot/taxed vadalised 1984 924 in metallic red with creamy interior.......................... heaven!

Sadly no, that's the one piece I definitely don't have. Good luck finding one though. Unless you want to replace with new, your best bet might be calling round some reliable breakers, like Porsch-Apart.

Would you believe I haven't see you driving around in that [8D] but I will keep an eye on you in future and flash[:D]

I was like you always wanted a porsche, it did not matter make, colour age etc., and eventually got my Otto a few years back, only to be discarded for Taffy my lovely TVR [8D]

924: Very under rated. Sweet handling and lots of fun. My first porsche was a 924 (le Mans special edition) and I still remember one high speed drive over the Cairngorms from Grantown to Tomintoul.

A 924S or a 924 carerra GT are both on my Lotto list

being an average guy with an average kob (less than 20k/year) and being a devout petrol head i have gone without many things and saved every penny i have to get what i want and ive had a lot! in 25 years of driving ive had nearly 100 cars (should pass that mark within 3 years)
nothing is impossible. i prefer cars that need work as when they are funnished i can stand back and look at it and say...... "I did that"

wish list for the future includes
DMC 12
jaguar mk2
rover 60 p3
mg zt v8

and many others,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Just saw you car in the Duloch Leisure Centre car park, very noticeable indeed [:D]

I was on my bike, so I went into the car park just to see the scorpion on the bonnet to make sure it was yours [8D]

Yes it was [;)]
