New owner & member - A few questions

Hi,

I collected a 996 40th Anniversary late last week and phoned up to join the club today. Looking forward to getting my membership through so i can access the other parts of the forum and apply for the certificate of authenticity.

I've got a few questions that I hope you can help with.

I've had VW's & Audi's for many years and used the ETKA system to look for part numbers, useful to go to the dealer armed with the part numbers you need. Is the Porsche parts catalogue available anywhere?

A few parts i need so far are:

A new cigarette lighter, Its been used a few times so is dirty, as a non smoker i want a fresh one in the car.

The fuel filler cap doesn't have the rubber lanyard to keep it attached to the car, are these available to buy?

The third thing I may need is a new heated read screen switch as driving home in the rain today I wanted to heat the rear screen but pressing the symbol on the switch didn't turn on the light or seem to heat the screen. The button felt solid rather clicking like the others do, the section with the light in clicks as normal. Is this a common problem with the switches, can they be taken apart to fix or easily changed?

Thanks

Steve

You can download a PDF version of the PET (Porsche's equivalent to the VW Etka catalogue) from here: http://www.porsche.com/uk/accessoriesandservice/porscheservice/originalparts/originalpartscatalogue/

Hi Darell & steve, Welcome aboard chaps, please post some pics for us to admire... Darrell, where are you geting the iPod connector fitted. Is this directly to the Tooki Bluetooth. Not sure where you are but can you tell me who's fitting it for you? Thanks

Sean

996 but not 40th Anniv model....

Thanks, I'll take a look through the parts catalogue. Any thoughts on the heated rear screen switch?

I'll try to get some pictures posted.

I gave the switch a very firm press this morning, the orange light came on and the screen seemed to heat up. It all appears to work, just a very stiff switch. All the other switches have a light action.

Steve

Thanks

Are they easy to change? Does the surround unclip to give access, does the sat nav unit need to come out?

Pretty easy really. The switches just clip in from the back of the panel. This should help:
