New owner needs a bit of advice

Hi,

After finally convincing my wife that the 997 is the perfect 'family' car, Ive just purchased a gorgeous silver 2005 C2S.
Having previous owned a boxster (pre-kids), I was aware of the niggles that can arise in porsche ownership.
I'd be really grateful if any members can help me with a few niggles:

1. The drivers manual height seat adjustment, does not adjust the height of the seat, i can push it up and down quite easily, but the seat stays stationary. Its set quite high and I'd really like it a bit lower. Any solutions.

2. The climate control panel has the usual well worn knobs. I am considering taking it out and sending it off to be refinished. Has anyone done this? and can anyone advise how easy it is to take the unit out and put it back in again.

3. Petrol - What should I put in it. If I use regular unleaded does this effect performance / economy instead of the premium stuff?

4. Windows - a few mornings both the drivers and passenger side windows have been down about an inch and the doors unlocked. I seem to remember something similar with the boxster, but cant remember the reason or how to stop this.

Think thats all for now.

Many thanks in advance

RTD

Petrol - If you are good with the cost then the best is 98RON or the "Super" fuels and will give the best performance but you can run on 95RON OK.

Windows down and car unlocked - sound strange about the windows part.....but the Mk1 keys are renowned for being pressed in your pocket and opening the Frunk / possibly the doors.....I purchased the Mk2 key fob part on E-bay and transferred the key circuit board and chip to the new key head and that works well without pocket activation.

Morning! Okay -
1: Drivers Seat - Now I'm glad I'm not the only one. My OPC once claimed that both of mine were broken (both my seats are in the lowest position) but actually after quite a lot of pulling the lever up and up, and up, and up, to raise the seat, it actually 'caught' and started going up. It then lowered fine too.
I'm not sure if there's some sort of catch system that goes funny if left for a time due to vibration or whatever but like i said, mine did work after a lot of repetition.

2: Climate Control panel - There's a lot of good advice on several of the better Porsche tech forums such as
rennlist.com
renntech.org
6speedonline.com
911uk.com
and from what I've read, it's easier to buy a replacement off ebay (other sites are available, etc.) which will usually be a refurbished part, and some places even do an exchange i.e. money back for your 'duff' part if you send it to them.
There's also a UK site which offer a button refurb service and even provide a guide on how to strip down the dash and get the panel out, at climaterepair.co.uk (bit steep at £86 though)
There's also a fair few YouTube vids if you want to see the steps in action.

3: Petrol - Super Unleaded all day. It's more than worth the difference, and a lot of fuel stations don't put so much of a premium on it any more either.

4: Windows - Yeah, you've got me there, although angusc makes a good point about the keys.
And I'm totally stealing the word 'Frunk'; I've never heard that before - it's awesome! lol :)

Cheers

Got the seat problem fixed, went to see my local specialist today, Peter at Motortune Shotts, turns out nothing was wrong, its just the way push or pull the lever. Needs to more of a pumping motion. Seat now set at lower position and all is now good.

Just managed to purchase a mint condition climate control panel from ebay. I'll try and put it in when it arrives.

Got a new issue.
The furthest right flap that covers the cup holders is hanging down, seems the spring is no longer working properly. Is there an easy fix or do I need to buy the full assembly
