New owner, niggly problem

Hi, i've just bought a 1978 911 sc absolutely stunning car. I've found that the steering column has a bit of free play. I was wondering if this was common on these cars and if it's a quick fix. If so how would i go about repairing this.

Regards

Alastair

Hi Alastair, welcome along.

Do you mean free play as in the shaft moves in the column, so your steering wheel moves up and down, or you have play between turning the steering wheel and the wheels responding, like wear in a column U/J or something?

Column bushes would cause the former and are a common problem on older cars, there is a Pelican thread here which explains how to sort it.

John,

Thanks very much for that, it's the steering column that is loose, so it sounds like the it is just a bush that is required. I'll have a play around with it and see how i get on, thanks for that link.

regards

Alastair
