Though I should say hello to you fellow 964ers as I have just purchased a Carrera 2 as my daily driver.

I am sure I'll be on here regularly to ask questions.

Here are a couple of quick pics

Hello Ian and welcome. Tell us more - how old and how many miles? Any modifications? Looks like a nice one.

It's a RHD 1990 on a G plate with 75,000 on the clock. Grand Prix White which really suits the car (white seems to be coming back into fashion - saw a brand new BMW Z4 in white yesterday). The interior is in a dark, almost black, blue leather (Marine?) fitted with sports seats with white piping round the edges. Sunroof. No air con. Looks like genuine Cup 1s fitted as they are stamped around the valve stems (7s front and 8s rear).

Seems very standard other than I believe it has a CAT bypass and a G-Pipe fitted. It's certainly loud enough []. No intention to mod it other than I will probably fit sports suspension at some point (Eibach springs and Bilsteins seem a common mod?) and a strut brace.

It's the intention to use it every day. Drives beautifully :)

Is this the one from Specialist Cars? I quite fancied that one but the lack of a/c put me off.

It lloks very nice indeed.

Richard

Yes it is Richard.

I decided I could survive without A/C. White seems to be a good colour at keeping cool. Drove around in it in the sun over the weekend and it was OK. It seems 964s don't get as hot inside the cabin as 993s (as you'll find out!).

Still haven't got used to how noisy the G-pipe is in comparison to the 993. I also need to remember the rear suspension design is not as good and it needs to be driven much more like an early Porsche.

welcome

The car looks in great condition. It reminds me of all the cosmetic jobs I need to attend to on my car!
Other than the suspension I wouldn't bother making any other mods as it's a great drive as standard.
Enjoy

Thanks Mark. Big fan of Guards Red on these cars as well. In fact it was seeing Rob Hounslow's car down at GCR that turned me on to buying a 964.

First question for you all ... the spolier override control in the center consol. I can use it to raise the spoiler manually (say in stationary traffic) and it operates as I would expect. However if the car goes over 50MPH when it slows down again the spoiler goes back down. On the 993 once you raise it manually it stays up permanently and this is what I was expecting on the 964.

So is this how the 964 works or is there a way to manually raise the spolier and get it to stay there?

Ian.

Yes I think thats how it works as standard - even if you manually raise the spoiler, it will come back down again when you slow down/stop. If I've just stopped the car after a good thrashing, I often leave the spoiler up at standstill just to aid cooling, though maybe I'm being over cautious.

You will get used to the g-pipe quicker than I will get used to the deathly hush in the 993 - soon to be sorted though.

Agree with your comment on the rear suspension too - chalk and cheese..........

Ian.

Thanks Ian, white would've been my first choice, but the right red one came up.
Looks nice!!! and that is how the spoiler works in the 964's.

And you will also be the cause of my likely first expenditure on the car as Chris has suggested I fit the Eibach lowering springs to get a better ride height. And that bar between the seat belt mounts you got from the states looks interesting too ... and the carbon struct brace you have .... aarrgghhhh.

Something interesting to note is the car has got more overt attention in the last week then my 993 ever gets. The 993 is dark blue and sophisticated so must sort of blend in and of course it has that nice quiet exhaust too. The 964 by comparison sticks out being both white and loud. Its has been described as a 'cool car' by all who have seen it (girls and boys) and seems to cause young boys to point and give the thumbs up all the time. Makes me smile when I drive it :)

Ian

Been meaning to reply for a while and when I saw this thread it reminded me.

I noticed from the photos you posted that you didn't have the same white breather tube that I have - sorry I am a new owner too, someone will not doubt join and give it it's proper name. I understand that it cures the ozone rots the dizzy drive belt problem

btw I love the GP white it would have been my first choice but I bought a Maritime Blue on condition. I wasn't sure at first but now I love it - it seems to suit the car.

Thank you Stu.

I do have it already but it attaches a bit lower down (where your lower white pipe attaches). I don't have the car here today but I think it has one pipe into the intake that then splits rather than two seperate connections. Wonder if there is a normal way of doing it or not.

Hi Ian,

Nice one! Look forward to seeing her at any region 8 do's for a comparison! Would've stuck a picture of mine on but keeps saying files are too large. Oh well!

Cheers

Craig

Nice Car Ian.
You can never have too many 911s IMHO (try telling the girlfriend that). I wish I could have kept the 964 for her to drive.
