New Owner - saying Hi!!

Hi, just bought my First Boxster today, collect it Friday.

After reading every post on there and I must thank you all for your varied views - it didn't hake my choice's any easier at all I finally settled spending 3K more than I wanted for a 3.2 manual facelift on a 52 plate. Just the 26K on it so fingers crossed its all ok.

I'm no doubt going to be asking lots of daft questions about fixing the bits I'm not happy to leave on it and caring for the car, but should also give some back and enjoy any track days going.

First lot - Insurance - cheapest appears to be £705, not to bad, with Sainsbury's! Almost 40, clean accident free license etc. anyone have decent Porsche insurance specialists you can recommend - will need it by Friday

Not happy with the kerbed alloy, will need one or two repairing - I'm in hampshire, anyone know a decent refurbisher?

Also a few bumper stone chips and a scuff that needs polishing out or blending in! I take it plastic isn't painted?

Inside is excellent - apart from a few scratches on the wind deflector - looks about £100 to replace.

Only a Nokia phone to take out - it appears to have Bluetooth in it - so wondering what the handset holder does - other than to power it - there are 2 leads feeding into it. If its Bluetooth - wouldn't that just associate with any Bluetooth phone on setting it up?

The service history looks ok'ish.. first service in 05 at 11K miles - 3 years sounds a long time to me for a first service - even if it's lightly used. 2nd is at 19K in mid 06 and I'd expect the next one in another 6K miles - anything I should be looking out for in the mean time? or something I should get done now? I'll phone the last service garage and make sure I use the same oil. Worth having an interim service done now?

The car is a basic model - no Bose or heated seats or traction control - so a lesson on the skid pan will be booked up tomorrow! Any recommendations on speakers - door look the easiest to fit, or rears? Its a CDR-22. I'd also like to use the aux line in - but with a sony mp3 player - I don't get if it has a specific line in cable or 3.5mm jack?

Lastly until I get the car and flush out the other niggles, Woo Hoo.. I've got a Boxster - /Dances a little Jig...

Ant.

Just a quickie - the service should be every 12k miles (alternating between an oil service and a full service, with the 48k service being bigger still). If the car does not cover 12k per annum, then the car should have an "annual inspection" instead - so in any event the car should visit the dealer at least once per year.

The new shape Boxster is now on 20k mile intervals with no need for an annual inspection.

Good choice of car by the way - you won't regret it.

I took a 1 day performance driving course a few years ago - best performance enhancement you can spend your money on. Try www.cadence.co.uk if you want.

Assuming when you say, "alternating oil service and full service" you mean minor service and major service which both involve changing of oil and oil filter.

An annual inspection (which has no oil or oil filter change) is only available in place of the minor service for cars that have done less than 9K miles in that year (for cars up to MY03). The only way to tell if the previous owner opted for the annual check instead of minor service is by looking at the service receipts as on the service book it is ticked as minor.

On top of that the brake fluid should have been changed every 2 years (see service book page 16 for details on maintenance every 2 & 4 years). Plus there should be a stamp on page 22 every 2 years on condition report for long-life guarantee (this is a no cost check/stamp). Long life Guarantee is the 10 years guarantee against rust holes in the bodyshell which I assume is voided if you don't have these stamps(?)

Was it a private or dealer buy? Did you get an inspection done? If private, I would suggest you get the inspection and take out the extended warranty with Porsche, at least for the first year as you get to know the car and any issues it will throw up in the first year of your ownership.

Edited to say: Oh, welcome to the Porsche World and the forum, the fun begins here [8D]

Welcome - you're going to have a smile on your face for a long time!

If you are thinking of doing some track days, try Performance Marque for insurance as track days are included - 0121 248 0911. I have been insured with them since buying my Boxster and found them courteous and helpful.

For the wheels, it might be worth phoning your nearest OPC - they might not be as expensive as you think.

Enjoy the driving!
