Hi to all you 944 owners! I just got mine last week & wonder if you could give a couple of opinions on service questions, my car is an 85 2.5 Manual with a reported 107 on the clock. It has a history going back to day one, but not much in the last couple of years. Questions:

It seems to have been living on Magnatec oil according to recipts etc. - Should I carry on replacing with same?
The spark Plugs are Beru Ultra R6 415 & are Extremely white in colour, but seem to be in good condition with no deposits - I'm more used to seeing a light brown colour - is this OK?

Cheers!

Mike.

Welcome to the world of 944 ownership. I'm sure you'll have a blast. I've had mine for about 10 months now and would recommend that you get a major service at a Porsche specialist so you know for sure that the car has been properly serviced.

I can vouch for Magnatek - it was been recommended to me by a Porsche Specialist, but i'm sure if you intend to use your car on the track you will need something a bit more suited for that use.

White deposits on plugs suggests lean running to me. I've just recently had my car tested and it was found to be running lean so I would get it checked out. Lean running over long period of time can cause damage to your engine so it's better to get it checked out ASAP.

Also try to establish when the timing/cam belt was last replaced. If you don't know then consider changing this at the earliest possible opportunity. The belt interval on a Turbo is 40k miles so i'm not sure if it's different on your's. Other than that i'm sure you'll be fine - tey are pretty mechanically sound engines.

Welcome on board Mike.

Magnatech will be fine for your car, it's a semi synthetic so better than pure mineral oil. Just make sure to change it every 6k miles (and I think it's 10w40 grade that you want).

Magnatec is put into most petrol BMW's as standard - they have a reputation for good engine's so I suppose it'l be okay!

Welcome and good luck by the way.

Oh, and remember that the brakes are better than most other cars on the road[;)]

Everybody I know in the trade now uses synthethic or semi synthethic oil. Without the boring stuff, it's like organic milk compared to the regular stuff, it's better for you. Bet that's the first time milk has been mentioned here!
