NEW PORSCHE OWNER/OIL COOLER MATRIX?

RevEm

New member
Hello I'd like to introduce myself my name is Darren I am a new member of the PCGB I am just waiting for my membership to be processed and I have recently brought a 1987 Porsche 944LUX. Unfortunatly I had oil in my water and the garage told me it is the oil cooler matrix. I have checked the Porsche shop website and they have these at a cost of £310 inc. I was wondering if anyone knew of an alternate place to buy from as my funds are depleting. Any help or advice would be very much appreciated. Thankyou

Try ringing a Porsche Centre first - Exeter are the best, and will give you a PCGB discount.

porscheshop aren't anything to do with porsche - they appear to have a tendency to add a margin to porsche dealer prices on spares.

+1 on avoid Porscheshop at all costs.

Isnt it the seal in the heat exchanger that is the issue? Certainly they were much improved on the series two cars, but Im pretty confident that the cooler can be re-built using new seals and it will be as-new. As Ed says: call Exeter OPC and theyll be ableto direct you towards the correct parts. Theyre enthusiastic about 944s, which cant be said about every OPC...

It is usually just the seals rather than the matrix itself these are just a few pounds iirc.

sorry hadn't read that Simon had posted the same above till now

Thanx for the info. I will give Exeter OPC a call and check about the seal and or replacement part. thank you again.

Whereabouts in the country are you and what garage are you using? Maybe we can suggest a good independant Porsche specialist who will have detailed knowledge of your car and the parts it requires

Welcome on board by the way [:)]

I am in Southgate, North London. And my car is in bits in a garage in Hadley Wood. The Matrix has been striped out and looks good. hoping to get the seals/gaskets for thursday and my car back to me saturday or monday next week.
Thank you all for your help. And thank you for the welcome, It is greatly appreciated.

Really hoping to get my car back today. The list of things done has been increasing. I as well as having the seals for the oil cooler matrix replaced. i got him to do the cam and balance belts adjust the ball joints, etc, etc. once i get it back i will clean her and post some pic's.

Excellent news that you were able to rebuild the cooler with fresh seals [:)] Hope you get her back today and I look forward to seeing the pics

thank you Driver944, But could not pick my car up yesterday. It is back together and it runs. but the water build up. He is going the flush with steam to try to get out any oil still in the system and that i will have to keep flushing it through for awhile to get it all out. He said i will be able to pick it up monday. so my fingers are crossed.

A little bit of Persil liquid* in the coolant will flush all of the oil out.

*other laundry liquids are avalable [:D]

I think he was doing that. Maybe a blockage ?
I will try to do that once i get her back though thank you.
