Evening all,

I've managed to get into a position where I can buy a dream car..... 996 turbo😀

Anyway, I'm kinda new to the Porsche scene, is there any good buyers guides I can follow as I'm viewing one in the morning

Cheers

The typical things to check on 996 turbo Rear spoiler raises and there is no dampness on hydraulic dampers cost £1800 to replace Manual cars do a number of bursts in second to check that it doesn't jump out of gear £2000 ish Tiptronic no oil leaks from transmission where the oil sump is. £300 for oil sump gasket, if transmission gasket £1800 check turbo boost okly goes up to 0.7 may flash into 0.8 bar any higher can mean actuator problems, dump valve ( cheap), faulty turbo. These are generic checks. Exhaust smoke should just be for a few seconds and no after test drive. Make sure a/c works and changes temperature £350/ condensor After test drive check the each radiator for the smell of coolant £450 centre and £350 per side. set of brake discs £1000 Clutch £1200 Wheel refubished £300 Rear tyres c £300 each fronts £170 each front end repaint c £1000 You don't need to worry about IMS or Bore scoring

I would check the condition of the Turbo's, Im helping a mate change his on a 2001 as one of them developed a hole shortly after he purchased it. OPC wanted large amounts of cash for 2 new Turbo's + fitting!! KArl

Ross! Our buyer's checklist will cover many of the normal checks on the 996, but pay attention to Gordon and Karl's comments about the Turbo. https://www.porscheclubgb.com/legacy/clientftp/Register/996/tec_buyers_checklist.pdf

Cheers guys... Well it would appear my version of 'mint' is totally different to others. 😟 At least it gave me some experience of looking around one

A pair of refurbished Turbos are a £1000 to £1500 plus 6 hours fitting and probably some ancillary parts. Try AET Turbos. I've only come across one turbo so far with a hole it tends to sound like an exhaust blow and the Turbos "whooooosh" more due to taking in more air.

Private sale cars are always "mint" and have them don't even bother to wash and hoover them let alone polish them. "Buyer beware"

Turbo Technics up in Northampton are excellent too - they can rebuild/recondition at a very competitive price if it is feasible, usually with about one weeks turnaround. However(!) you usually have to get the turbos off first....
