New purchase - 944 lux - few questions

Hi all,

I've just bought this 944 lux : http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/996673.htm

It's a really nice old car but as with any old car it needs a few tired components replacing as I'm going to be using it on the occasional trackday.

1) The front shocks need replacing as they are a bit soft (backs are fine). Looking on the Porsche shop website they only seem to sell replacement front shock inserts. Is this the only thing I need to get to replace them?

2) I'm also ordering a new set of springs from there (30 mm drop). The set only comes with two springs. Question is, how do you drop the rear to the same height as the front, I presume it isn't done using springs?

3) As you can see in the pics it's fitted with what I believe are Boxster alloys. Nice wheels, but they sit too far in the arches which looks a bit odd. Does anyone know the right size spacers to order to sort this? The Porsche shop do 25mm and 40mm. Looking at the wheels I am thinking of ordering the 40mm for front and rear.

4) Finally, has anyone got any experience with these guys http://www.rpmtechnik.co.uk/ ?

Cheers!!

Mmmm that does look a nice one [:)]

2. There should be some adjustment in the rear eccentrics to alter the ride height but maybe not as much as 30mm to match the shorter springs unless you have the torsion bars reindexed ££££££

3. Your 1984 car was designed for wheels with an offset of 23mm. Those Boxster wheels will have an offset around 55mm (should be stamped by the side of the valve) so ideally you will need 30mm spacers to put the outer edge of the wheel in the same place

4. Myself (and quite a few of the 944 regulars) have used RPM and are extremely happy with them. I would give them a call to discuss your springs, shocks and spacers.

Very pretty car [:D] I look forward to seeing it on track.
I can't say a bad word about RPM Technik, they look after my cars and do a great job.

Looks like a cracking early car. [:)]

RPM have always been very helpful to me, at the moment they have mine in for repair so please don't give them anything until later in the week! [:D][:D]

Where are you based? Must be fairly close to me in Rickmansworth, so you should be able to bring the car to the Ace Cafe meets?

I'm in Harpenden, so not far away at all. The Ace Cafe meet looks good to me. Once I get the bits done on the car I'll definitely be in attendance!

Welcome to the forum

Thanks for the advice, I'll give them a call tommorow.

The fronts will probably be closer to 40mm. You can mitigate the cost by fitting a set of longer rear studs and spacers from another series one 944: then youll only need to buy the spacers for the rear. Id guess that you will be looking at about £10 from an established breaker.
