New radio, poor reception

I think I may have done something wrong, but wasn't sure at the time I was ftting the new head unit so I erred on the side of caution. Anyway, along with the aerial coax cable, there was a slim black wire with male bullet connector on the end. Could this be the signal amplifier lead? My radio won't hold a signal driving around or find any signal at all outside Reading. I assume there is life outside my town?![;)]

I think you are on the right lines.
I know there is an aeriel amplifier lead that does need to be connected - not sure what it looks like...

It is most definately the signal amplifier connection! I disconnected mine and had the same issue!

Craig definately as above!! Its a small black box which is under the dash to the right, it has a small back lead coming off it which needs to be attached to a 12v power supply, it them amplifies the signal and your reception will be sorted [;)]

To reiterate yes this is your radio aerial booster and you will get very little without it!
