New rear boots required

Went to the car today and upon looking at the back though that the rear near side tyre was low.. Anyway 6psi so yes - defo low!! Nice nail in it just on the outer of the tyre so not repairable..

Tyres are prob 1/2 - 3/4 worn so will be getting two new ones..

So - what recommendations??

Currently they have Michelin Pilot SX on them which I have been pretty happy with, but they were old as they were stored for a few years before fitted.

Tyre size is 225/50 ZR16

What do people think / recommend??

Conti Sport Contact's on mine, plenty of grip and good wear rate too, plus pretty good in the wet.
 
what I do like about the Mich's is that they have a good size rim protector - is that something that most do now - I guess so?
 
I'm on the second set of Falkens on mine. There may be better tyres out there, but for the price they are pretty much unbeatable (although Kuhmo's are meant to be just about as good value.)

I had Conti Sport Contacts on my S2 when I bought it. They were good, and gripped well, but the edge of adhesion was quite sharp, and they let go fairly quickly after that point. The Falkens (which I replaced them with) don't give quite as much ultimate grip but do let go much more progressively and informatively. They also seem to last a fair bit better.

I stuck Hankook Ev0 12's on all four rims last year and they seem to be holding up well.

Another vote for Falken 452s, got 255s on the rear of mine.

If you want long life then pirelli P6000s are the way to go, bu**er all grip but will last for around 150k miles*


*That's how it feels on mine, waiting for the fronts to wear out

Same here :[:D]

I am desperate to replace them with Falken 452's or Toyo T1R's but the damn things refuse to wear out.
 
P6000s may outlast humanity, but didnt someone have some nice pics of some thrashed ones?

I got the lux with ancient (like 10+ yo) P6000s on plenty of tread. Binned em immediately. When i bought the 16" cup wheels the fronts were P6000s no idea how old, plenty of tread, no grip... so im after a full set too. Gonna go for falkens I think, after recommendations here and they're cheap enough to replace more often.

Anyone used camskills? they seem cheaper than blackcircles.

I've just had Falkens on the rear from Blackcircles, no problem with them at all. We've got a great Blackcircles agent near me, it's worth using a garage you trust wherever you buy the tyres.

I have used Camskill for some years now. Faultless service, almost next day delivery, recommended (in my book)

Ironically a mate uses Kwikfit as their on line prices (fitted) are competitive (you then have to pay to get them fitted if you buy from Camskill) and you can book a time for fitting.

Might be worth a shot (be careful of their fitters though and never go on a weekend when the part timers are in there)
 
Spoke to GT One today (local specialist who I use) and they also supply and fit tyres.

Basically they can supply and fit any tyre I want - but after a lot of looking etc, they are able to do me a great deal on Bridgestone S02 N3 (Porsche rated - or whatever the n means ;) ) So I think I am going to go with that...

Decided to do all 4 corners too.. They tyres are actually 9 year old Michelin and starting to look a bit perished. As I am an 'enthusiastic' driver, I thought its just not worth the risk....

Anyone had any experience with the Bridgestone S02 N3 Porsche rated tyres??

Don't let the car out of your sight, though. They have been known to jack the car on it's gearbox, or the four-point lift jacking points. And use an airgun to torque the nuts. And they aren't likely to have a soft socket on the airgun, or care about how they remove the old tyre from your precious alloy wheel. [&o]

My main reason for using my Porsche specialist TBH..

Too many bad experiences with tyre fitters... I am a very placid guy, but I actually nearly came to blows with a guy at my local KwickFit not so long ago when he completely stripped my wheel nut on my 360BHP modded Saab 9000 Aero... Then tried to blame it on me as the car was modded, and I had non standard wheels on it!!! go figure..
Basically he was busy talking to his scrauny mate whilst letting the airgun rattle away tightening and tightening the wheel bolt.. Saw it all happen from the waiting area and when he tried to just put it back in with his fingers and then leave it in without telling me - thats when things got nasty!!

Not that they are all like this I am sure - just dont trust people like that I am afraid
