New rear wiper?

Chaps,

This may be a daft question, but I need a new rear wiper blade for my S2, and it is of an unusual fitting - it has a pin which sticks out sideways from the wiper arm (parallel to the screen), onto which the wiper blade clips. (I imagine this is standard on 944's).

However, neither ECP nor my local motor factors can sell me a replacement blade to fit onto such a fitting.

Where can I get such a thing from?

I got mine from Ebay without any problem. It would be worth at the time getting the longer blade too it makes a big difference to the amount of screen cleared. I cant remember the size of the bigger blade but for example if the standard one is a 16" then I believe I got an 18" one. If you search on the forum there are a couple of posts that cover it probably from about a year ago now.

2 aerial bungs and a bit of clear silicone do the trick nicely [:D]

I think 24" or something is the upgrade blade size if you reverse a lot.

So you have a nice smooth black bung inside as well as out. Much prettier than the bolt even the genuine Porsche solution provides.

Interesting, thanks.

Trouble is that I use my rear wiper quite a lot, so need one ...

Oli, I can't double check this right now as I don't have a car to look at [8|] but the pin is actually transfered to the new wiper. If you look at your front wipers you'll probably see that they have a round hole near the centre which would allow them to be fitted to the rear wiper arm if needs be.

Any Bosch wiper will have that hole and should fit your rear arm. I too would not be without my wiper, I need it every time I reverse off my drive in the morning when it's wet, dewy, misty or in fact virtually every day in our luverly climate [;)]

Sounds like your car has an early type wiper arm like my 88 turbo as ive just looked at my S2 and the blade doesnt have a pin it just fits on like a normal front blade !!!

Paul,

Thanks ... are you sure about transferring the pin? I'll have a look at mine more closely, but from memory the pin is part of the arm and the wiper has a spring clip that holds the wiper to the pin, which is not a part of any new blades I have seen for sale. I'll check this afternoon ... thanks for the advice.

Random Hero - OK. Sounds logical. I know my S2 is an early one. Maybe they changed them sometime after '89 (which is when mine was made.)

Ian Walker - Thanks. I'm in the South East!

Correct Paul, mines an 1988 1/2 and it has the standard Bosch blade with a removeable pin [:)]

Paul,

Thanks for your sage words; you were quite correct, the pin does push out and transfer to the new wiper!

Thanks! Now all I need to do is find a new blade and fit it (thinks ... perhaps I can stop off for a sneaky visit to ECP on the way home from work tonight .... )
