New Remote Alarm Needed

Dekker

New member
My battered remote alarm case has finally bitten the dust. The plastic rib that held it on the key ring has worn through and the rubber button is almost
unusable.

What I need is a new case only, as the circuit board is fine.

Has anyone any ideas where I can get one.

I would guess that this is a common part to other Porsches as well maybe to the Volkswagen and Audi range?

I recently bought a replacement remote fob for about £40 from hamilton palmer. Included all the curcuit board etc and work first time.

You could try a search on Google or even eBay. I recently replaced my aftermarket alarm fobs with new items. It was a good find as the model is now defunct and you cant get the fobs in the shops [8|]

David,

Assuming it's the standard UK fit (the factory alarm doesn't have a remote) it's likely a Hamilton & Palmer unit as Kevin said. They are very helpful - web site here.

Thanks for the replies, lads.

Kevin, thanks for the message, I'll keep this option as a last resort as I think 40 quid a bit excessive for what I need.

Chris, it was the 1st place I tried but no joy there, nor the online web sites that sell porsche parts.

Hi Dave, mine is a 91 build and has a factory fitted alarm complete with the little dongle chip that has to be inserted into the slot at the side of the steering column.
Or am I confused??

There's no rush as I've got into the habit of just using the key nowadays, I was just hoping that someone knew of a cheaper work around.
I guess that the unit is a Bosch.

Cheers, Dekker.

I think your reply just confused me!!! Which bit is it that your are wanting to renew?? Your use of the word "remote" implied exactly that - a remote "plip" used to arm/disarm the alarm. That's not the same as the thing you describe as a "dongle chip". I think the factory fit alarm is made by Hella but I wasn't aware of the "dongle chip". AFAIK the factory alarm/immobilser is activated by the door lock mechanism.

I'm a bit vague as my car has an aftermarket Cobra alarm which has a remote and links to the central locking so I never use the key to lock/unlock the doors.

Dave,
Your 1st reply was correct. My car is 92,93 registered and had the Hamilton & Palmer Immobiliser fitted by the OPC before it was sold-this uses the separate "dongle " which you insert into the receptor in the steering column shroud, wait for the 3 bleeps(I think) before removing the key to insert in the ignition lock. This is wired into the factory fit alarm which is normally activated by the ignition key in either of the doors. As you say,H&P are very helpful & the whole system was categorised as Thatcham 1 by my OPC.
Any plip type alarm modules would indicate an aftermarket fit of a central locking kit.
