New RS owner - random questions

Just got my first Porsche, a Swiss, Indienne (guards) red 964RS. Have some questions already and will no doubt have more in the weeks to come. Hope you can help

- Oil Temp. This is a Swiss car and has the common mod here of a second oil cooler. The oil temp seems to oscillate a little but never gets out of the bottom 3rd of the guage in normal road driving (ie not licence losing speeds). Does that seem OK ? Have no idea if either cooler is thermostat operated but assume they are.

- What were original wheel centres, crested or RS ?

- Swiss 964s had different gear ratios than other 964s for noise. Anyone know if that applys also to RSs or how I can find out.

- Having a problem fitting harnesses. Are the holes I can use factory fit or likely to have been fitted at a later date. If I put in the nomal style eye bolt in the transmission tunnel for the lapstrap it limits the rearward movement on the seat as it blocks the runner. Its pretty close to the back end of the lower seat rail. Any ideas ?

thanks !

1. Oil temp varies, but lower thirds is fine.

You will see the oil temperature from cold rise toward the middle, and drop as the thermostat opens.

Beyond that ticking over and statinonary, the temperature should increase towards the middle --- and then drop as the fan kicks in.

2. Swiss gearing in 993 was certainly lowered to reduce noise and improve performance.

I know because I tried to import a german LHD car into Switzerland and would have had to replace most of the "rapports" in the gear box. Not one of my better ideas !

If you look at Tony's book he gives the gearing in each ratio --- measuring the drop from full revs in one gear to the revs in the following gear. You could always compare this to your own car ?

3. Harnesses --- no idea.

Wheel centres were plain silver painted crests (RS centres first appeared on the 993).
With regard to your harness bolts - this might sound daft but are they just too big?
My eyebolts on the tunnel side are close to the runner but don't foul it. Bolt has a very short shoulder - maybe check with a specialist.
