Speakers in my sse are shot. Im looking to replace them yet keep the original covers. Any one done this?? What speakers will fit without hacking or cutting?? Or is it a case of hello Mr Halfords etc

probably wouldn't go to Halford initially. Most decent in-car entertainment specialist worth their salt would be able to match up a set to suit your needs. You could then try Halfords to check prices.

I did this last year, by sourcing new old ones... ie new speakers from that era that were the same diam. etc. I will ask my contact if he has any more.
I got Pioneers in the front door cards amd JBL's in the rear sides (my car is a cab), the tweeters were a bit harder to find for the front doors ... so I got some new Pioneers and cut the old baskets from the factory fitted tweeters that I removed and glued the new speakers into the old baskets - very fidly but the result is new clear sound and no change to the appearance of the car.

I took my 964 to OldFords see what I could do with the sound system. My side and rear speakers are JBL's. Non-standard but do a reasonable job. Told to consider the output as much as the speakers. System not putting out right output for 6 speakers, so I should either take 2 out of loop or add an amp.

He wanted £ to take things out and look, but came outside and advised for free. Quoted £40+ for an amp. More for speakers. Needed to go to a larger store for the correct shape speaker, almost rectangle / not oval.

Might go to a specialist, but don't know of any locally. Also, think I prefer to listen to the engine, especially above 5,000 !

Let me know how you get on.

Im the same. Bet you turn down the stereo when you give it some whelly just to hear the engine.

Yeah Im the same the flat six symphony is all I really need... but the good lady likes to hear a few toons on longer hikes, and my speakers were shredded. Being a cab I think previous owners had thrashed the speakers to oblivion.
When I got the car first nothing could be heard at all when the hood was down except the flat six symphony and when driving through France Mrs F insisted that we had a variation to that soundtrtack!
