Why didn't I do this sooner? I've just had fitted H+R adjustable suspension and full alignment and corner weighting and its a relevation. I thought the steering was communicative before but now I realise it had been gagged by poor alignment and old shocks (55k). Turn in is sharper, bumps don't throw it about even though its lower ( I haven't slammed it to the max mind, keeping it sensible for everyday speedhumps) and high speed stability is amazing. Still awaiting fitment are the H+R sway bars (on back order) which I decided to get as I'm planning more trackdays this year. Will report on these when fitted. Total cost for anyone interested £1850 including fitting and alignment. If you're unsure try and get a go in one thats had a suspension upgrade. I'll give a passenger rides to anyone at Croft on the 30/04/06 or Elvington 7/05/06, but I'm not sure how much you'll appreciate from the passenger side that said thats as close as you're going to get from me []

Another convert from the Porsche must know best about suspension brigade[]
Had been involved in an interesting discussion about suspension on another un-named forum where people would just not accept that Porsche could fit such bad dampers in the first place and that I must be some mad crazed speed junkie[]

As posted before,i had this done over a year ago now(H+R,Bilstien HDs,RS anti rolls and alighnment),i am a regular at the Ring, and am still amazed at the transformation.
The car is so composed and as mine is only a pre varioram C2,you can throw all the power at the suspension and it just takes it in its stride,so much fun[][].

That sounds like all the encouragement that I need. I've been planning to push the button on ordering the MO30 suspension upgrade with Bilstein HDs from Carnewal for some days. I will be ordering today.
Also, I've been out in my car today and I couldn't help feeling it was wallowing unduly on undulations and would benefit from sharper turn in.

Went to Newcastle and back today to see a friends newborn (220miles round trip) and persuaded the wife to go in the 993. Kids strapped in the back and we set off minutes later kids are asleep and the wife says "is this new suspension supposed to make you feel every bump?" "Yes" I reply with a grin. []
Hi Maurice, I don't think my H+R set up is as comprehensive as the PS 009 ie only adjustable in ride height. I didn't go down the fully adjustable as I had some spax on a hillclimb MG midget and in 7 years I never adjusted them! And anyway the difference has allowed me to buy a smaller airbagged wheel without denting the card too much. The model for the H+R is H29-954-1. The ARB's are on back order but I'm told it won't affect the alignment as it's just a straight swap. All these changes are because I'm planning to make it more track baised. And the 1st track day is the end on April so I'll give a better report then but as I said before the change in the handling is all and more than I expected the steering feels alive and the car is talking to me I ( usually saying "go on give it some more" ) I've had to keep an even closer eye on the speedo.I think the recent TV programme "ten years younger" sums up my experience. One happy bunny[]

I am in a similar position to Robertb. I am on standard suspension with shocks that have done just over 50k and so are probably in need of replacing. I am tempted to upgrade to sports suspension at the same time but don't want to sacrifice the ride too much. Is there anybody near Wimbledon with sports suspension who would be willing to take me out (as a passenger, of course) so I can see what I might be letting myself in terms of ride quality?
Thanks, Rob

I am in two minds about this- my car feels fine, but I guess I have no benchmark so who am I to say...
If I was to go for HDs, would it noticeably stiffen the ride, or simply improve the composure? I don't want to crucify the feel of my flexi Targa.
Robert,
It will stiffen up the ride, but the car is better for it. Cornering, motorway driving and brisk A road sprints will feel so much better. The degradation in the dampers is gradual so is sometimes not that noticable, especially if you don't drive the car a lot or don't tend to push on . As I live out in the country I have lots of quiet roads to blast around and found that in S bends and undulating stretches of road the car did not feel 100%. Got a friend to drive my car and he thought that there was nothing wrong, even went to the local OPC who gave the suspension the thumbs up, but as I had a feeling it was not right went ahead and changed springs and dampers which resulted in a car that was transformed.
You have got to remember that I love Maxflo's and think that the RSR's are a waste of money[]
Does anyone have experience with the Roock/H&R developed suspension kit (Bilstein shocks & H&R springs) that JZ Machtech offer?
Apparently this kit is not as firm as the HD + H&R (e.g. Carnewal) set up and was recommended over the HDs for everyday driving use (with occasional track days).
I've got the factory M030 setup and don't want to lose the responsiveness that the HD's might bring....but also trust their opinion...

Karl,
I take it that JZ told you this? It is utter rubbish, I had a long conversation over a year ago with them when I was trying to source the HD's at a decent price in the UK and all they did was try to push their kit which at that time was close to double what the HD's & H&R package cost me . Also your M030 setup is using Monroes so will benefit from the fitting of a decent damper (Bilstein) and make the overall package better, not worse
If you need any convincing that the HD's are the way to go I suggest you go to thye 993 Rennlist forum and do a search on suspension.

Karl,My HDs with H+R SPRINGS are barely harder than they were on my worn out 90000 mile standard shocks and spring, this is only an assumption but i doubt if many of us will feel the difference between the top market replacement kits,Jz are good people but of course they do like to push their prefered product, when they fitted my kit they were trying to sell me KW suspension,i supplied my own bought from carnewal and they gladly fitted it and did geometry for a reasonable price.
Thanks William. It was indeed recommended by JZ.
I've heard nothing but great things about the HD + H&R package (on this and other forums) and was prepared to go with this when JZ threw the curve ball.
I'm curious to know, from real-life use, how big a difference there is though....
