New Standard Practice for Porsche

Dear All

To my absolute astonishment I have just been subjected to the new standard practice, that my local dealer Porsche Guildford is now following.

My car is due in for a MOT on Monday, and this morning I had a phone call from "the sales side of the business" just checking if everything was OK and asking if they could help in anyway?

While talking to the sales man concerned, I told him of my astinishment at the call, saying that in 10 years of dealing with Porsche no salesman had proactivly called me and indeed when visting the dealer show room for a service, was completely ignored while browsing the various models on desplay. Its was explained to me that this was standard practice for sales to make such calls............. not to me!

I wonder if marks a shift in approch and that we might be treated like the customer, or would it be something to do with the fact at for the first time they have a number of new 997's in stock that they can not sell!

Best Regards

William

its down to the mountain of cars they have commited to and the fact their sales commission isn't coming in.

They have smelt the expensive coffee back at Reading [:D] Forget the softening up phone calls, probably made on a Skype phone to save even more money:ROFLMAO: and wait for the 20% + discounts Don't know personally how accurate this info is but a used Porsche specialist told me this week there are over 1200 brand new unsold Porsches (all flavours) in the UK and discounts of upto 20% are being offered to help shift the metal! With new Aston Martin Vantages being dicounted by up to £20k and registered delivery mileage old model examples between £30-40k off list the 20% off a new Porsche would seem quite feasible [&o] I keep hearing horror px prices being offered to potential trade up customers so all in all very 1990's again []

Why is anyone surprised? Porsche are not immune to the current financial sentiment in the marketplace, but I would still be surprised if there are any discounts being offered for new cars - reasonable trade in offers, yes, but no discounts from a new order. Saw an unregistered gen 1 C4 at Guildford yesterday, so would guess that one will be registered and discounted to shift it. Personally, I have had a few follow up calls after servicing for a number of years (not every time, but occasionally) and can't stand 'pushy' salespeople anyway.

I have just had a sales call to check if I was happy with my car. I told the salesman I was but may look to buy a 2009 spec Cayman if the p/x for my car was acceptable. To cut a long story short, I was offered £19,500 for a 2006 cayman with 15,000 on the clock. When I asked why the price was so low the response was ' we have so many new and used cars in stock that we will have to trade your car on and that is the best price we can get' ! Needless to say, I am not buying a new car !

blimey- last week i was offered £31k for my 14k miles2006cayman s at opc p/ex and i`m still debating-if it was 19k i`d be convulsed!!

Dyllan, Maybe you have missed the boat. I wonder if your offer still stands or was it genuine anyway. My dealer principle told me the other day that he would be offering now for my Cayman S (Mar 2007) £30K in pex. The new Cayman S looks great, but with such a huge difference in price, I suspect many like Alexandra will not bother. Incidently, I read that the Boxster/Cayman 2.9 will not be DI and that the Cayman or Cayman S will not get a LSD. Shame. However, my 911 PDK Cab is great!

derek i was thinking the same-maybe this week the offer will be much less[] i am just waiting to see what the gen 2 cayman will be like-if not up to scratch then i will persuade linda to go for the gen 2 997 pdk

Very wise. Though on paper the Cayman is still the best car Porsche ever made and would be the choice of one's head, it is still not a 911. That is something special. No one ever said 'WOW' to my Cayman. They do all the time to my Aqua Blue Cab. If you can afford a 911 PDK Cab, buy one, but don't buy the S.

Why ever not (he said with an S with pdk on order!)? In for a penny... Peter

Peter, this has been debated previously on this forum and in the recent motoring press. To sum up: 1. The Carrera is faster than the Gen 1 S and is fast enough for me, especially with PDK. 2. It is more economical because the insurance, road fund licence and petrol consumption are all less. 3. It is lighter. 4. A PDK Carrera is quicker to 90 mph than a manual Carrera S. 5. It is £4000 cheaper, like for like (except engine and instrument dial colour) I could afford an S, but decided on the bog standard Carrera and am very pleased I did. No regrets.

Afraid this is the way they are going - I just enquired about one on Autotrader from a trader, 2.7 with 12,000 on the clock in Seal Grey which sold yesterday for £20.5k. Peter

Blimey I have been bid between 30-32k by 3 OPCs for a 2006MY 997 Carrera 2 with only 12k miles. Take the 31 k. £19-20k is about trade.

TBH i dont know that i can justify turning up in a new gen 2 when not being able to give staff bonuses (in current climate)-wouldnt sit right-so am sitting tight for time being

Simple Dyllan, don't turn up in it. Buy a banger AND a 997 Gen 2 PDK. Turn up in the banger and plead poverty. [:D]

sadly derek being a medium sized fish in a very small pond, nearly everyone here knows of my porsche love affair and would spot through that little plan very quickly!! on the plus side i was once again offered just shy of 30k against a gen 2 997or a new gen 2 cayman s(which they are taking orders for now).real bu**er this conscience thing[:D]

Here's a plan - Spec it the same colour as the last one, keep the number plate and no one will know! Peter NB That's what I'm doing...
