new stero unit 996 turbo

Thinking of replacing the stereo and navigation with a Pinoneer avic unit - looks great and brings the AV and navigation upto speed.

I'm (hoping) the car goes up in value - and wondered if replacing and updating the stereo might have an adverse effect on values at a later date.

Any thoughts?

Replace the stereo but keep the old one in a box and sell the car with it, so the new owner can decide to replace it if they wish. Win win

My feeling is that in general the car will be worth more in it's original specification. I guess you could keep all the bits to revert it back when you sell the car (or even give them to the new owner so they can revert it back if they want).

It doesn't really affect the value of the 996 as PCM adds little or no value, as it's so antiquated, but it is nice to have. If the replacement is colour matched and looks nice then most people are happy when you have an upgraded system when you explain why. ie when you explain pcm2 has no bluetooth or usb/ipod connection(to fit costs £7-800) as well as the cost of the map upgrades.

As per previous postings you need to keep the old unit to pass on to anyone that wishes to keep it original.

I changed my cdr23 for a pioneer and I've done the same kept the old one just in case I sell her.

I had the pioneer AVIC-F77DAB fitted last Christmas and love it
comes with Apple Car Play, it's very easy to use and connects super quick
have kept the old unit, so it's win, win really ????

I've been thinking about doing the same recently and figured I'd simply keep the factory unit, just as the others have said. My concern is how do you know which are compatible with the factory Bose installation? I was looking at Pioneers new SPH-DA120 with Apple carplay. So reasonably priced and great spec, but not sure if it would work with Bose. John.

I went to an installer in London who knows what to do, sections. It's compatible with the Bose upgrade but you do need to check as some versions require and extra amp

Just to add my twopenneth to this, I recently changed my CDR23 for a Pioneer AVIC-F88DAB and the unit itself is excellent. However be aware about the parts the installer uses: mine initially used the surround for the 996.1 (mine is a 996.2 with cupholders) and it didn't look great, with big gaps andmismatching angles. They have since changed it but make sure they don't use the Connects2 fascia/surround/bezel or similar as it only fits the 996.1.

Also IMO the DAB aerial looks horrible on the windscreen - I'm trying to get used to it, but am toying with losing it and the DAB functionality because of it.

Finally , again in my opinion, the AVIC-F980 unit looks more OEM and like the PCM2 (ie with a slot for the CD rather than a flip front) however I was encouraged to go for the F88 as it has better functionality and a bigger screen. It looks pretty good in and I'm happy with it.

I've still got the PCM 2 in mine. I bought a bluetooth transmitter for £5 off ebay- was very sceptical but for the money I thought not much to lose. Plugs into my ipod and transmits as a radio signal and you tune it and the radio to a channel that there isn't a station on. 95% of the time it's perfect and I keep the original looks and save a few quid! Plus I have a CD changer in the boot.
