New Taycan order

I'm in the process of ordering a Taycan 4S and there is a huge choice of additional items that can be selected.

I was wondering what experiences owners have had, which items have proven to be useful and which are unneccessary.

I realise that the upgraded battery pack is a must but things like the Electric charging port cover for £443 seem unnecessary. Presumbly without this, you just open the flap manually?

The upgraded seats and power steering options are some other items that I have been wondering about as well as all of the possible charging options that are on offer.

Any tips/ guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Darren

Lot of folks on here have much more Taycan experience than my 3 weeks, but in terms of spec I can give you my thinking. I started off looking at the 4S but quickly realised that for what I wanted in my daily / business driver (which my Taycan is), once I’d added the spec I would regard as a minimum it was getting very close to Turbo price levels, where many of the options I wanted were included. To Quantify that, very close was within £10-15k, but on contract hire or PCP which most of these are, then that level of difference doesn’t affect monthly repayments much.

Specifically - Mine has the 18 way adaptive sports seats (a no cost option on the Turbo) - I suffer from quite a lot of lower back pain and these are some of the best seats I’ve ever had in a car. The normal 8 way seats in the 4S felt very flat to me - but that’s just me. Panoramic roof is something I had in my previous Range Rover’s but isn’t on this car (was a showroom car so I didn’t spec it) and I don’t miss it. I do have the electric charge covers - they look cool, but the normal ones that open like a conventional fuel filler cap are all you need. BOSE surround (standard on the Turbo) is actually quite good, but I don’t know what the standard audio is like. Mine has the very expensive rear-wheel steering - not sure on that - though you really can feel it working - some YouTube reviewers have called it an "Essential Option”, which is a bit extreme. Mine‘s also got Sports Chrono - the little stop-watch looks cool - but I wouldn’t bother with it at £700+ to be honest - you won‘t sports plus unless you take it on track-days, and it’s not that kind of car. Little things like the additional cabin lighting I would have as I imagine it’s very dark in there without that. Anyway hope that helps a little and I’m sure some other forum members will give you their views.

All the best

Chris

Hi
Have you ordered your spec yet, I have only just noticed your post and have had my Taycan for 5 months and also had a Tesla for 4 years prior so lots of experience of EV's. I went through the configurator with a fine tooth comb a few months ago and solicited views from various online forums. Let me know if you still want a view on what I specced, what I consider essential, nice to have and don't bother.
Cheers
James

Hi Darren
That’s a great spec??
you haven’t mentioned the Bose which is better than the standard, only important if you listen to a lot of music in the car though.
I have the 150Kw charger but not really needed in UK as only necessary for 400v 150 Kw chargers and there don’t seem to be any in UK. I doubt I will ever we use it but specced it as a low cost option just in case.
If you have 3 phase electricity at home or work or will use 22Kw AC chargers regularly worth getting that option. I didn’t as 7Kw overnight is fine.
I also didn’t spec pano roof but did go for the 21 inch mission e wheels but that’s purely personal preference. You will get 10-15% more range with 20’s and maybe a little more with 19’s
side window trims in Black work well depending on colour of car and wheels
Sports side skirts make the car look sportier, I wouldn’t go for the whole sports design package though personally.
privacy glass is worthwhile as it hides rear and boot and I use the space with the rear seats down for goof stuff so good to have.
smoker package gives you a neat container with Porsche on it that fit’s in one of the front cup holders to put coins etc in
finally i would only spec Rear Wheel Steering if you regularly park in tight spaces as turning circle is pretty good as standard
the driver stuff like PTV and PDCC is great for the track but on the road while will handle better isn’t worth the extra cost as it handles great and flat anyway.
finally, I specced adaptive cruise as although I don’t use it much it’s a necessity if you want to add features on demand on subscription later to try them like Innodrive or lane change assist

Hope that helps, worth joining the Facebook Porsche Taycan Owners UK as some great info and very helpful people on there. I am on there as James Bolland as use my middle name for FB
also Jon Woodhead the Taycan register secretary is on there.
He also holds a Porsche club Taycan register zoom call once a month or so

cheers and good luck
James
