New to 968 - Tiptronic fluid level?

Hello to all 968'ers. I am a new and recent very happy owner of a '93 968 TipCoupe. A few years ago I had a 944 Auto and I know on that one the ATF level should be checked when the engine is hot and running. Can anyone confirm is it the same on the 968? When running and hot the level is just below minimum, but when cold it would be hard to get more fluid into the reservoir, it is quite close to the top. I would hate to ruin the transmission so grateful for your advice.

Thanks, Ben

Thanks for the suggestion, I will have a look. Pity if this site is getting little use. It was really good for the 944.

Ben ISTR you are correct as when I used to often check mine it would drop down loads once the engine had started. Toping it up through the reservoir cap is a really messy PITA. When you turn it off it takes a long time for it drip back into the reservoir. I did it loads of times when I had a bad ATF leak but since that was cured it never seems to loose a drop.

Right then the workshop manual says the oil must be at least 80 degrees, as it runs through the top of the radiator that is just a way of saying the engine has been throughly warmed up. Engine running at idle and selector in neutral, oil level must be between the min and max.

Many thanks for checking this for me in the workshop manual. Must get one somewhere. You have reassured me that I am doing the right thing. All the best, Ben

Neil,

Boots well filled. Thanks for the link. I also have a ATF leak. It is slight, a few dripe a day, but might explain why it was a bit low. Now at the right level but I will get my local indi to sort it. Hope to meet one day at a 944/968 event. All the best, Ben

Run engine until ATF is about 80 degrees. Place car to flat surface, and put gear selector to N-position.Car must be running when checking the ATF level. If you need to add ATF it's very easy to fill more fluid with a long hose (garden hose will do) with a funnel. I did it with help of my wife. She poured fluid and i was cheking out near the transmission that everything went smoothly.
