New to 993 - advice on Stereo please

Hi fellow 993-ers
i am taking delivery of a 98 Turbo next week and I wanted to ask advice about stereos. The installed OEM unit looks pretty mono-functional (just radio) as I have recently discarded all of my cassette tapes
i have seen a great looking unit called a Porsche Stereo Navigation system. Can anyone let me know if it is a good piece of kit?
Any other advice for a newbie 993 owner would be appreciated! I have had a 996 and a 997 and currently drive an '89 AM V8 - great head turner but a bit of a leviathan. I'm expecting the 993 Turbo to be a bit nippier!

thanks in advance

Becker Indy Pro or Grand Prix both IPhone/Pod compatible with Sat Nav and Bluetooth if you can't be without your phone......very period looking and with the correct speakers and good sound. Can't buy new off course but there are plenty around.......

Why buy a 993 an your first issue is the music playing capability? You should have bought a Volvo, or maybe a Fiesta they are iphone compatible?

Don't worry about it listen to the engine....................

Hi, and welcome to the 993 forum.

+1 for the Becker kit. Looks the part in the 993. There are pictures on here somewhere. Works very well with iPod (etc) - you need the add-on cable. Dials on the head until operate the iPod intuitively and display shows detail from the screen of your iPod. Bluetooth was not available on some models - check the one you are buying has it if you want to use phone while driving. Downsides are the sat nav is a bit old-school (no map display - just icons for directions - I find this fine). I've not managed to find a way of updating the maps - that's not surprising as Becker stopped making it.

The "Porsche Stereo Navigation system" does look good but I'm not sure it works (properly) with iPod/iPhone.

As said above you don't find yourself bothering with music from artificial sources unless on a long motorway run.

I have the Porsche Nav system with TMS.

Works well.
Sticks out a bit.
Works with iPhone etc. USB charges phone.
Hands-free function via Bluetooth.
Plays DVDs etc.
Doesn't accept full post-codes on Nav.
Has 'Porsche' written on the front.
I like it.

Thank you all for your advice. I clearly have to be careful on this forum to make sure i hide my pipe and slippers - my apologies Cater-Racer! I am looking forward to listening to the 'music' of the 993 - i wonder how it compares to the 5.3L V8 that was my last fun drive.
Phone compatibility is really important so i will look into the suggestions above.
Thanks again.

I've just bought a Becker Grand Prix from the bloke in Norway (Tore Bergvill) that does the HID lights. He refurbishes Becker radios and sells them in dollars which is a pretty good deal for us Brits at the moment. He is really helpful and reliable. I would certainly recommend him. The unit is excellent and he also supplies old style 120GB IPods very cheaply second hand which are the ones that work with the connector. Massive improvement on my old Becker unit and looks excellent.
