New to life with a 993

Have had my 993 Cab for 2 months now & have to say am enjoying the owning experience as much as I'd hoped. What a great car to drive. Find the forums a very valuable source of info, so thanks to those "in the know" who are able to advise people like me who are "not in the know". Have been learning lots over a few months, and I wonder if people would be able to offer their experience to help on a couple of matters:
1) Engine running temp - when sat still on a hot day my temp gauge hovers around 10 o'clock, pretty much constantly on the white dash at the 10 o'clock mark. As soon as I drive it comes back to norm. (car done 96K, oil level fine, serviced well in Nov 05, with rear spoiler manually up). Is this normal or should I worry about this?
2) Anyone know of a good source of advice on looking after the cabrio top? i.e. what to clean it with etc.
3) If rains lots, get a damp patch under the carpet behind the drivers seat. No obvious place it may have come from. Guildford OPC scratched their heads and suggest I book it in.(not the best use of £99/hour). Could this be a blocked drain from the window somewhere? Would someone like Northway look at this for me when it's next due a service or is there a better place for all things concerning cabrio roofs?

Would greatly appreciate your thoughts on these.

Many thanks

Hi,

Fine choice of automobile (although I may be biased [;)])

The engine temp sounds a bit high - mine has never really gone above 9 o'clock. There is a piece on correct temperatures, testing correct operation and possible problems here: http://p-car.com/diy/fan/

I cleaned my top yesterday with Autoglym hood cleaner, and that seemed to make a good job, very easy to use.

Does the wet patch appear when the car is simply left standing in the rain, or only after driving?

Pete

Thankyou for the responses. Sounds like I need to have a play with the Relay tonight and hope that it is broken!

Fairly sure that the water only accumulates when the car is driven in the rain. The foam on the floor is pretty damp and looks like it has been wet for sometime, so I guess the problem may have been there for a while. Did you have any drain problems or similar with your cab? Good tip about the hood cleaner, thanks.

Jonathan.

I agree with whats been said above, oil temp should not get to 10 o'clock (in UK climate) unless you have a cooling
problem , it's not a problem to diy . chances are if ones gone (oil cooler resistor) then the one for the aircon is also gone or is very near to failing, so its also worth looking at the aircon resistor.

We have used Autoglym cleaner and protector on the hood in the past, which appear to make an ok job... We have are currently using Rennovo hood protector and Rennovo on the plastic back window 1. to make it clearer and 2.. to stop it cracking as they are costly to replace.

As for for water leak, I would sugegst it is either a window incorrectly aligned or most likely the large seal between the back edge of the window and hood. we had to replace these on previous cab's as even though they look like they seal, they can be saturated absording water like a spunge and letting it make its way into the car..

Regards Adam.

I agree. I feel I've gained a lot of knowledge these past 10 months just listening to you all. The active forums make the club for me - well worth the subscription even without everything else.

Hopefully, in the next few weeks, I'll be experiencing the 993 driving too....

Mark

Thanks for your advice on hood and back window protection. Need to go & buy myself some new cleaning/protection agents. Rennovo agents to protect the window sounds like a good plan, do you get these online? Your tip on the window seal/hood is absolutely spot on. I hadn't noticed that it was becoming saturated and dripping down, sound advice! Any ideas on the best place to purchase replacements? [:D]

Jonathan.

The flash floods in Surrey have definately shown that it is the large seal between the back of the drivers window and the hood that is becoming saturated and dripping inside the car. Does anyone have any experience on whether these can be re-water sealed i.e. with Renovo, or whether replacement is necessary (can these be bought from anyone else except OPC?).

Jonathan.
