Hey its been a while since I have been in here!

After much politics with the other half, and much negotiation, I have managed to give my wife my Boxster S, sell my 996 C2 and buy a silver 996 Turbo! woo hoo!

I didnt have the C2 for long, probably only 6 months, it was a blast, but I kept looking at the 996 turbo's and wondering what the difference would be... So a few weeks ago I started test driving examples and fell in love with them all.

Firstly I noticed that the car feels so much tighter than the C2, firmer, more precise... is the turbo suspension and steering much different to the C2 or was my C2 worn out?

Next... the power... totally addictive, but I must admit that I am getting to be a bit too used to it and can see why people upgrade.

Had a pre purchase inspection at JMG Porsche in Bournemouth on the car I settled for, turned out it needed a pair of dump valves and a MAF sensor, but apart from that it got a clean bill of health!! The owner paid for the work to be done and the deal was done!!!

I will post some pics as soon as I have detailed the living daylights out of it.. But I cant stop grinning whenever I look out of my windows at home and see it... and especially when I am paying for fuel and walking across a petrol station forecourt back to it.

Interestingly... I also noticed women smile at me much more when I am driving the turbo or getting in or out of it.. curious, I didnt think women were material! lol

The car I went for does not have the Bose sound system, but the hi-fi pack with dash, door and rear speakers. I was not too fussed about the Bose as my C2 with the 9XX JMG dash, door and rear speakers with active bass sounded better than all the turbo's I drove with Bose anyway.

As I write this, JMG are changing the speakers over to their Alpine custom items for the dash and rear, as well as installing an amp, door speakers, crossovers, 2 x active bass units and an Avic double din head unit!)

As a side note, while at JMG I noticed they are now selling an updated version of the 9XX speaker kits, with now all black components that blend into the original grills as well as selling the adapter kit on its own so people can buy their own speakers to work with their adapter kit!

So hopefully at 2pm today my car will be sounding as good as it goes and looks!

I am also toying with the 9XX exhaust system, manifolds back to get the external soundtrack up to sounding tip top as well as laying the foundations for further power mods at a later date.

Anyone know what the difference between the X50 (?) and non X50 cars are? not just the power level but what components are different and how I can tell if my one is X50 or not.. I have been reading something about this but am not sure.

Also, where is the best site for booking a trackday at Bedford autodrome? I have been advised that Bedford is the best trackday location for getting used to a new car due to the excessive run off in any direction. The PCGB member I was talking to at the Poole Quay Porsche day refered to Bedford as an excellent "sandbox" or "playpen" for pushing the limits without armco danger (if the member is in here, thanks for the tips and please PM me!)

Anyway... of to learn a bit more about 996 Turbo's!

Excited Excited Excited!!! [:D]

The very best of luck with it. Some pics????

Also, more info on your skilled tactics used to negotiate with your other half :)

Welcome back! (whatever your name is [;)])

As Mike says:

If your C2 had the standard suspension, the Turbo will feel much firmer and sharper as it has the M030 sport suspension package.

If you have the X50 pack, it should show on the options sticker.

Enjoy!!

ditto

The X50 factory package brings the plain tt closer to GT2.
All the vitals are upgraded, e.g. ECU, Turbos, intercoolers & suspension.
As such is very much easier and safer to further unleash the car's potential...
I refer to such cars as "liberated " or code X500+
Then, you might consider a TUBI, RUF 19", 997 short-shift and gear lever, 340mm TechArt steering wheel, etc.....[;)]

A factory "X50 Pack" cost, I think, was around £12k, and that is what became the Turbo S.
Of course you can do it but I would say is uneconomical.
X50s are the economical way of buying a Turbo S... because in a sense you pay Turbo money for a Turbo S car without the S on the bonnet....
The only extra the S have are the PCCBs, but then the very first ones were waste of money....
