Hey guys how is everyone. Just signed up to the forum today though I have had my 1988 944 for almost two years now. I love it and have never really had any problems other than this one.

I live in Canada and it gets very hot here in the summer and i notice that when i turn my wheel and the car is not moving very fast it tends to make a little bit of a knocking crunching noise. It cant be good....but I have no idea what it is. It also makes a noise similar when i go over a bump at slower speeds.

Well thanks guys and any help would be much appreciated.

Paul

Sounds like it could be a ball joint or maybe worn/broken anti roll bar bushes/clamps or maybe a wheel bearing???

Does it tramline? when did you last have the tracking checked? does the noise go away when you increase the volume on the radio??

Good day gentlemen,

I have recently purchased a 1987 porsche 944 from my father. However there are a few things wrong with the car. Thus far I am unable to roll down the driver side window, remove the sun roof. The hydraulics in the back for the trunk don' t work at all. And neither does the back windshield wiper for that matter. I know nothing of cars especially a porsche for that matter. Any information on where I can go for help would be greatly appreciated.

The volume on the radio doesnt make a difference. It sounds like one of those things that you mentioned. Out of interest if it was one of those what sort of size job is it?

Thanks for your reply.

The anti-roll bar stuff is fairly easy. get the front of the car raised and you will see the anti roll bar is fixed to the chassis with two simple brackets which clamp around two rubber bushes, which are slid onto the anti-roll bar. If one of the brackets is broken just replaced it. Not an expensive item and as you are fiddling about under there you should check the condition of the rubber bushes, which are also cheap, and replace them as necessary.

Wheel bearing replacement depends on model, but I suggest you check up the following site http://www.clarks-garage.com/ and go to the garage shop manual....

Ball joint failure on my old 89 S2 meant a complete wishbone assembly had to be replaced. There are advertisers in 911 & Porsche World who offer exchange components for about 25% of the Approved Porsche assembly. Don' t know how difficult it is to change as I was a 944 newbie and got Camtune to fix it. The assembly was over £400.00 but a couple of months later I saw an advert for an exchange assembly for about £110.00.... Curses!!

Thanks ever so much Tim, you have been a great help. Im going too look into the things that you have mentioned.

Thanks again
Paul

Window could be switches or motor.
Sunroof removal procedure is in the handbook - but key in position 1 press the roof button and the arms will retract, open catches at the front and it will tilt lift out.
the rear hatch should have an electric release - motor behind carpet and gas struts to hold it open - which when new will open the hatch when you release the catch.

What area are you in - for additional assistance?

Tony
