Just got myself a 1986 944 Turbo, 89k Miles.

In very nice condition, I was wondering what the pitfalls to ownership are?

Also the feel of the clutch and the brake pedals seems a bit odd to me. Brakes not very progressive i.e. hard to get subtle braking and clutch pedal has quite a bit of dead movement where there is no resistance to pressure before it seems to activate. My first thoughts are to get the hydraulic fluids changes and the systems bled, and hopeing it isn't master cylinder issues.
 
Doesn't sound quite right. Brakes could have plate lift? Usually brakes are nicely progressive and not on/off. Is there some adjustment in the clutch pedal - I think TTM mentioned this. Welcome to the forum. Oh and we like pics... [:D]
 
Replaced my clutch master cylinder last year after the clutch started to bite whilst I was waiting at junctions etc causing uncommanded movement. Interesting! Not a difficult job I think I paid Ă‚ÂŁ65+VAT for the master cylinder you just have to remember the car needs to be on ramps or a lift so you can get at the slave cylinder bleed nipple. Incidentally how many '86 Turbo's are there, according to howmanyleft.co.uk there's only 3 licensed
 
Not many are there 1984 1 licenced? 1985 4 sorn 1986 3 licenced and 11 on sorn, 1987 28L 32S 1988 50L 53S 1989 64L 44S 1990 55L 41S 1991 52L 28S 1992 1L Turbo S 1987 0L 1 S 1988 22L 24S 1989 1L 1S Turbo Cab 1991 20L 14S 1992 17L 7S 1993 1L 3S
 
My 86 Turbo is on SORN, only 14 knocking about in the UK according to that, a rare old thing indeed, but she is lovely !
 
The figures aren't much use even if theyre accurate (which they definitely aren't) because they are referring to calendar years, not Porsche model years. All 1985s on the DVLAs figures are 1986 Turbos and a proportion of the 1986 cars in their figures will be 1987 model year models.
 
I figure that my first step is just to have the systems drained and the fluid changed and hope this sorts out the pedal feel Might be the some adjustment on the clutch as the first bit of pedal travel does nothing at all, or maybe the slave cyclinder. Will get some pics done soon.
 
86 Turbos Rock BTW, yes as you have posted fluid change in the master cylinders will see a difference, i will bet it still has the original in there.

Congratulations on an apparently nice car. Pitfall list is probably: Rust in sills Rust in Trailing lower edge of front wings Water leaks an early production low miler like yours would be lowish risk of the above IMO then, use regularly or dry dry store would be significant and finding a good spanner to maintain it without incurring the costs of a 991 turbo along the way for you. There's several good indies just west of London: Hillcrest Specialist Cars at Nettlebed, or Northway Porsche at Beenham...my car's been well looked after at Northway for over 10 years. I find them convenient because they're just walking distance from Aldermaston Station, regular trains from Reading, open Saturday mornings for collection.
 
Nettlebed isn't that near Henley? Both a bit far out of town was hoping for something nearer. anyone use porschembri?
