Quote: "Jason Plato takes his first test drive in a car he's actually already ordered - the new Porsche 911 Turbo. The most powerful production Porsche ever has a massive 480 bhp, will do 0-62mph in 3.7 seconds and has a top speed of 193 mph. But with options like adaptive sports seats and carbon brakes, this car costs a whopping £106,740. That's nearly 50 grand more than a basic 911. Can it possibly be worth it?"

So if Jason has ordered it then I would guess he's going to give a great review!!!

I wonder if he has chopped his F430 in for it ?

Should be a good test, DVD recorder at the ready !

saw one being hooned around the circuit @ Classic LeMans.

Very impressed with the way it powered around Arnage with the tail out & smoke pouring from teh rear wheels.

Nice bit of television although predictably some of the facts and figures given about the car were misleading.

Jason omitted to say the 0-62 time was for the auto and the 9 secs 0-100 doesnt relate to either transmission ! ( 996 tt anyone ? ) They should get fundamental stuff like this spot on every time.

I wonder how many more orders came in this morning as a result of the excellent overall review ?

People who would put down their money after hearing a review on TV are those who generally haven't a clue about performance cars and would most likely only listen to J. Clarkson's review... [8|]

Interesting that Jason commented on the slightly floaty front end, as did Evo Mag.
Hmmmm.

NEXT MONTH! I thought the factory (and the whole of Europe) closed for August and production resumed in September?

That colour did look great, but I reckon they used some pretty heavy camera filters to bring out the depth of the colour...Ive never seen a blue Porsche look as good as that one did!!.
Also what is this 0 -60 time for the manual at 4.2 seconds?...an X50 pack 996's is quoted at 3.7!

Here's a pic I took at the recent R24 Concours of a 997 Turbo in Cobalt Blue. It IS a stunning colour I have to say.

Regards

Dave

Just read this weeks autocar manual 997TT 0-60 in 3.7. Thats more like it!!...so I presume the auto must be sub 3.5 then. Why do Porsche publish such bad 0 - 60 times?...you would have that they would over egg them not understate them

If I may, the correct times are as follows.

997tt manual 0-62mph in 3.9 secs.

997tt auto 0-62mph in 3.7 secs.

Knock off tenth or two for an idea of a 0-60mph time.

Porsche are well known to understate the 0-60 and 0-62 times; your cars are guaranteed to do 0-60/62 less than the official figures given ideal conditions. Most good magazines/website will put "(claimed)" if it is manufacturer figures and otherwise give their own tested figures and in Porsches they are always less then the official figures.

THX911,

I tend to agree with you although EVO managed to get worse figures from their latest test of the 997tt !

They must have done something wrong as there is no way this car isnt at least as lively as Porsche say, some hooligans in America even got a standard 997 C2S under four secs in a sprint test.

Plato....what a boy....

"You can oversteer it quite easily...watch" [flicks car into casual drift at 100 mph +, holds it while chatting to the camera]
