NEW TYRES FITTED IT STILL FEELS UNBALNCED VIBRATING AT 80-90MPH HELP

Hi all,thanks so much for the previous reply one more thing i really need advice on my boxser s 2001 y reg 38k has another problem, i have had some new tyres fitted new michelins because i thought the old ones were causing the horrible steering vibrating im getting at 80-90 mph i have had the new ones balanced perfectly but the car still feels exactly the same as if the wheels had not been balanced does anyone know what this problem maybe as i now know its not the tyres or balancing please i would really appreciate some advice
 
You haven't kerbed a wheel badly have you? Warped wheels can (all to often) cause this.

Where did you get the wheels balanced? Some places don't do a good job (let's face it).

Are the brake discs corrroded (it might be on the inside face - where you can't easily see...)?

Have you done any trackdays and sat there with your foot on the brake after a few hard laps? You're looking at warped disks if so...
 
The same has happened to me on my 2001 boxster and is still the same even though i renewed the front discs and pads.
 
It could be a couple of things but I would guess at the lower control arms. They cause a wobble at certain speeds when worn, usually slightly more noticable on very smooth roads.

If its the discs the wobble will be worse when braking although if very bad also felt when driving normally.

have a Hunter Road Balancing machine. Basically it gives a 3D view of the tyres (also puts pressure on the tyre while its spinning to show what happens when on the road) and so will show buckled wheels as well as out of shape tyres or balancing problems. Great guys too.

I only know about all this as I had a BMW that had the same issue. I ended up selling the car and getting another as the fault could not be found. The second BMW did the same and BMTR did thier job and said it wasnt the tyres or wheels. It was the control arms.

Not too dear at an independant-I had them done on my 996 but beqacuse of squeeking not wobble. They are a known weak spot.
 
i once worked for a mercedes dealer and a guy bought a 500sel (65k at the time, 20 yrs ago) and the alloys were an optional extra so the rather dishonest sales man fitted some non genuine looky -likeys. the guy had no end of problems with wheel vibration at 90 -100mph after many wasted hours and at least 2 sets of new tyres the problem was dicovered and a new set of OEM wheels fitted and Problem solved. Check which wheels should have been fitted from the factory and if they have ever been changed...hope this helps.....[:)]
 
Stick your head under the front of the car. In front of both front wheels you should see a plastic "air diveter" ....plastc strip around 2" x 8".

They're easily damaged going in and out of driveways etc. Make sure they're both there and that neither are split.

Inexpensive and easy fix...not saying it is these, but replacement cured similar problems I had with "vibration" at speed.

Totally agree, both of mine had broken off and when I replaced them the car felt a lot more planted at high speed
 
Jack thank you so much,i looked and the bits of plastic at the front they were split,had new ones f itted problem gone,its amazing the so called professionals at the OPC could not find this problem,what they did do well was to charge me a fortune and get me to buy a new set of tyres that i did not need,why do they do this its so short sighted, they had the nerve to totally slag of this forum,well maybe they should browse this forum in future to find answers to the problems that we all face and they seem to have a total lack of knowledge to fix,well thats my rant over thank you all for your kind replies all the best p
 
I believe it's the worn bushes on your front steering control arms, i had the control arms replaced and it's fine now.
 
Can someone tell me what i should be paying for a new clutch to be fitted by a private garage on a 2001 2.7 Boxster in London.
