New tyres needed

I did read the faq's but I am looking for a recommendation from someone who has bought tyres recently.
I am looking for tyres that are not too soft on the sidewalls that will give a firmer ride when cornering.
Any suggestions folks?

I bought 5 of these for mine http://www.tyre-universe.co.uk/continental-eco-contact-3-185-70-r14-88h-normal-tyre.html

Can't really comment about the sidewalls, as I have nothing to compare them to, but the car feels good and has a decent ride. I am aware these are probably a superceded tyre now, but there is not a whole lot of choice in that standard size any longer, and the price seemed good. Plus I like Contis!

Yes, I saw those on another site. I think the fact they are 70 profile means there will always be a degree of flex. Maybe it's something I will need to get used to.... Or get bigger wheels!
I have noticed a big difference in sidewall rigidity between brands in the past, so hopefully someone will know of a stiffer brand.

I bought some Hankook Ventus Prime 2 K115 215/45 R17 W (91) tyres for the rear of an Alfa recently and was impressed with how much better they made the back end feel. The whole car was more positive on corners, less back end drift . . . . don't know if they make them in the size you want?

^ There will not be much roll on a 45 profile tyre. It's not the grip I am concerned about, it's the height and flexible sidewalls of a 70 profile tyre..

Until the advent of rubber band height tyre sidewalls, 70 series tyres were considered to be low profile v the most common 85% ratio back in the 70's/80's. More than likely the suspension of a 924 will have been designed around those parameters. The 924 rolls a lot under cornering but it still grips. Remember it is a forty year old design.

^ I will probably just buy a premium brand then, Dunlop, conti etc.
I was curious as to whether anyone had noticed a difference when changing tyres.
