New tyres on Cayman GTS

My 2014 Cayman GTS (13K mls.) still has the original P Zero tyres on.

The Ackerman effect is quite pronounced and the tyres skid around a bit when cold.

I am thinking 13K is a bit early to change them.

How many more miles can I expect to get through on the P Zeros?

Are your P-Zeros the N0 type? I would guess so, therefore I would recommend you scrap them now and fit a set of Michelin PS4S N0 tyres.

The Michelin PS4S tyres are not approved for the 981 Cayman GTS.

You have a choice of either the Pirelli P-Zero or the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2.

Nick,

My understanding is that Michelin have approved the PS4S N0 as compatible with the 981 Cayman S on 20" wheel sizes.

I have a set of 20" PS4S N0 fitted to my 718 CS. I also originally believed that they were specifically designated for the 718 Cayman, but subsequent enquiries to Michelin technical people from 981 owners, have confirmed that they are not model specific.

Nick might be referencing the Porsche website approved tyre list, which on a quick scan has not been updated for 12 months. I don't think he is suggesting they may be unsafe.

In any event the Porsche approval only really applies to extended warranty since under block exemption rules, equivalent parts may be used during a manufacturer's warranty period.

My local OPC said that the PS4S N0 (available in 235/35 & 265/35 x 20") was on their listing (approved ?) but not for my 981 CS.

They provided quotes for both PZero`s (N0 & N1), the Goodyear and even the PS4S N0 ... albeit £50 per tyre (fitted) above another outlet.

When I asked Michelin if the PS4S N0 was good for my 20" shod CS they confirmed that it was.

Do Porsche ever add a completely new tyre to their approved list for previous models ?

I wonder why the PZero N0 is available alongside the N1 ? I do know that post the N0 `cracking` issues the N0 has been modified by Pirelli.

Tyre approvals list here

I understand that Porsche Centres are obliged to buy tyres from an approved supplier, hence non-competitive pricing.

Posts numbers 7 & 8 are links to ostensibly Porsche AG sites. However, they offer conflicting results.

I have a 981 Spyder and I get the following results:

a) The link in Post 7 offers only Pirelli P-Zero, either N0 or N1

b) The link in Post 8 offers either:

Pirelli P-Zero N0

or

Goodyear Eagle 1 Asymmetric N0

Interestingly, the latter links has a "Powered by Michelin" sign in the bottom rh corner, but it does not offer a Michelin option for my Spyder

Aye ... yet another point of confusion regarding a manufacturer`s `safety - compliance` process.

I will be fitting the PS4S N0 in the near future.
