Hi all, just been looking around the forum for info on tyres but there doesnt seem to be any (unless I've just missed it comepletely).......just wondered if anyone had any thoughts on alternatives to the Michelin Pilot Sports I'm currently running on? Booked in for 4 yr service next month and onle just scrapped through the MOT recently on the tyres so looking to replace them during the service?

Thanks!

I have no doubt your friendly Porsche centre will offer to replace the tyres at the service, but beware, they will be expensive. Shop around first before you accept anything. There are also website which sell tyres, such as Blackcircles, MyTyres and Camskills. These are a good place to start to get an idea of price.

No doubt they will! Thanks for the alternative options sourcing tyres elsewhere. Have you heard any good things about the Cayman running on alternative tyres like Pirelli's or Continental's? I know from new they come with random manufacturers and wondered if I was missing out on something if I just stuck to the MPS's..........

Debating tyres is like debating religion ... everyone has an opinion, and they are all convinced they are right. [:D] Truth is, that of the relatively limited choice for the Cayman (assuming you stick with the Porsche approved N rated tyres) they are all good. What size wheels have you got? I run mine on Continentals and love them, but others hate them. You pays your money and you takes your pick! [;)]

Ive got 19's.....do the Bridgestones, Continentals, Goodyears come in 19 specs? Any improvements in ride, road noise, grip (in cold and warm weather, wet conditions) over the Michelins?

They should all be available in 19" (bar issues with supply), and if you are happy with the Michelins, I'd probably advise you stick with them. They are probably the best all round choice (if probably the most expensive []) Best of luck

Hi Sarah, I agree with John, and would give my opinion that the Michelins are probably the best, although the most expensive. Elsewhere on this forum we debated mileages also, and again Michelins came out top...therefore £333s for mileage..maybe not so expensive after all. I changed all 4 last year, and managed to get them from Costco...but you would need to be a card holder, or know someone who can let you use it. Hope this helps...

I had my two front tyres recently replaced in December when the car went in for repairs and service and I have to say that Bolton OPC were very competitive. The did an excellent job fitting them and the car feels the best it has ever done. It worth seeing if they can at least match the best price you can get.

You don't say where you are in the country. If you live near Aberdeen I can highly recommend Tyre Devotion. He's a one man operation who will come round to your house or place of work and replace the tyres there. He's got a Transit van with all the kit in the back for changing tyres. I got him to do my rear tyres and he was the same price as Blackcircles even though he came to my house to do the job. The quality of his work was very high, all the points of the machines and lever which could touch the rim were covered in plastice to prevent damageto the rim. The wheels were given back spotless, no tyre soap or greasy hand prints left on them. I couldn't ask for more. Ask or Norman.

Thanks all for your comments on this topic. Think what I will do is get some prices elsewhere and then see if my PC will at least match their price and then get them fitted during the service. Cheers.

Hi Sarah 'Kwik fit' don't laugh, have 235/65/ 19 Mich ps2 Porsche N rated for £214.50 each all in for the front and 265/35/ 19 Mich ps2 Porsche N rated for £273.00 each all in if you are running 17's or 18's it will be cheaper still. My local 'Protyre' centre will knock a few quid off these prices and can fit them without damaging the wheels in the process of course your local Kwik Fit min't do a good job also to be fair to them. John Ps if you go to the 'event tyres' website they have pictures of the new Mich PS3 that is being launched this month so it may be worth waiting a little longer if you can.
