new warranty

i am keen to share experiences with regard to the inspection prior to taking out the new "more expansive warranty".

i was told today that the following need to be addressed before the car is eligible for the extended warranty:-

- cup holder sticking
- bosch wiper blades not acceptable
- slight crazing on brake pads?-need replacing on "safety" grounds, bearing in mind car past MOT today

how much should i expect to pay for replacing the pads at the opc

has anyone received a brochure from an opc setting out the terms of the new warranty. my opc wasn't offering this volentarily in order to sell it's benefits

does anyone know of an opc charging for the inspection, if you don't then take out the warranty

Mine has just been through this process and the OPC check is very thorough as you have found out. My understanding is that the inspection cost of £172 + vat is payable whether you take out the warranty or not. I took out the warranty (ouch) and the inspection cost is included in the price. I asked for and got a copy of the inspection schedule which covers all models so certain items will not apply. It is lengthy. I can't help you on the pads cost.

Surely Brakes, Wiper Blades, and all "consumables" are not covered under the warranty anyway? I'm curious in how the Bosch blades were "not acceptable" - can you elaborate?

I recently renewed my warranty, at the same time as it was serviced, and there was no charge for the inspection. There were no issues and, personally, I think the improved warranty is fair value (when compared with other prestige manufacturers), and certainly worth considering if you do higher mileage or have a potentially costly maintenance model (ie TT, GT2, GT3, etc). Mind you I'll probably also renew it on our Boxster. It should certainly add value in the event of a private sale. However, it's clearly been conceived to protect Porsche and its network. Fair enough, business is business. But, judging from the various forum threads, they may have shot themselves in the foot - losing many loyal customers and suffering damaging PR in the process. I do wish Porsche would embark on a positive PR offensive. There are many areas where they could do this, and a 3 year manufacturer's warranty would be a healthy start.

apparently the wipers have to be original equipment just in case their failure leads to a problem with the motor etc, which are covered by the warranty. porcshe are of the opinion that their wipers are superior to bosch. does anyone know who makes the porsche wipers? regarding the cup holder, apparently this is covered by the new warranty, therefore it needs to be in perfect order before the new warranty can be applied

They'd have a field day with my car!!! I will almost certainly be going with the new extended warranty package that Tech9 are about to bring out. Covers any Porsche, no matter whether it's been modified or not. Will be cheaper than Porsche's too. They have the policy ready to go, but their FSA application has not yet been finally approved. They are hoping by end of February everything should be in place.

My OPC has kindly sent me a warrantly booklet with a timely reminder in the post. ?I've probably over-looked it, but not clear to me whether the extended warranty covers rattles and squeaks - this was something which was not covered by the previous extended warranty scheme. Fair value? Offering only a 2yr manufacturer warranty does not stack up IMO. If I'm not mistaken: -buy a Porsche in the U.S./Canada and it comes with a 4yr warranty at significantly less cost (all-in); -some of the italian manufacturers, e.g. Ferrari, Maserati offer 3yr. Maybe the devil is in the detail, i.e. what's not covered, so I remain to be convinced...

Wipers? Cupholders? Do they specify the pH of the water in the washer bottle in case it might be too acidic and corrode the windscreen? Sorry to be facetious but is it still not an expensive insurance policy? Let us know more about the Tech 9 package when it's sorted, Alex.

Having admired the carbon fibre strut tower brace on the Autofarm Cayman RS at the NEC, I went over to the Porsche stand who confirmed that the fitment of such would invalidate my newly aquired extended warranty. End of discussion! Andy

I beleive the 10% PCGB reduction is given by most OPC's for parts but many do not give it on servicing costs. Always best to confirm each time before you book the car in in my opinion.

It's a good time to bring out such a competing product and it will be interesting to understand the scope/price differential. That the Porsche issued warranty cost of protecting against possible problems has increased significantly, extended stuff accepted, coupled with a need to make sure the vehicle hasn't been compromised any which way, e.g. wiper blades, it begs the question as to whether the product (vehicle) is less reliable than originally conceived.

Oliver, can you confirm if your GT3 is completely standard ?? Mine has mesh grills fitted, and the suspension has been adjusted slightly so just wondering if this will be a factor. I had my car up on the OPC ramp a while back and the first thing the tech noticed, was that the antiroll bars were not in the 'normal' setting. Can't see why you shouldn't be allowed to adjust adjustable suspension anyway, and surely if it's a warranty issue he should have told me there and then. Cheers.

anything other than Porsche coffee invalidates your warranty
lol[:D] tech9 for me too -look forward to hearing details alex thanks dylan
Tech 9 warranty for me... my car's got an iPod connection, that's enough for Porsche to refuse warranty renewal!!!!

Having signed up for a new warranty included in it is Porsche Assistance. The Warranty wallet (i.e. proof of its existence) arrived the following day but after two weeks the Assistance wallet has still to arrive. On enquiry, I was told that the Assistance wallet takes up to 28 days to process! Logically, one would need assistance before a warranty claim. More Porsche logic? or am I being picky? I could, conceivably, have gone on a long continental trip immediately after the inspection with no proof of its existence. On the wiper issue the only difference I can detect is that the passenger side wiper blade is curved rather than straight compared to the Bosch item. Don't ask how I know!

Probably the same way I did - at teh last service. £47 to replace both - but I must admit the really are a superb smear free clean now.

My GT3 is standard, although I also have the Cup mesh grilles fitted and the suspension has been adjusted - in both cases by my OPC. Maybe I'm fortunate, but I have an excellent relationship with my OPC, I've never had any significant issues with them, they have always done an excellent job on my cars (old and new) and I'm confident they would look after me if I had a problem. I did speak to them about the some of the stories that were going around about the new warranty and they said they try to be fair and realistic. Certainly OPCs should be able to have a sensible attitude with their loyal, long standing customers.

Thanks for that. Actually I have just recently spoken to my local OPC, who I also have a pretty good relationship with. They have as you suggested confirmed that they'd also be fair and realistic in light of this relationship, which is a comfort. I didn't actually get my suspension adjusted by them so will see how they view that on the day though. Cheers.

How does using non-Porsche screenwash affect the warranty? Prior to reading these threads on warranties, particularly about wipers, I might have joked about this. Not so sure now.
