New Wheels

Been thinking about fitting a set of Veloce XS 19inch wheels to my 996 Turbo, has anyone had any experience with fitting the larger diameter rim and if so does it have any detrimental affects on the handling / ride quality. If there is can they be overcome by any adjustments and what would be needed.
Any information will be gratefully recieved.
Thanks Dave

Will require a slight tweak to the geo to make the most of it, I would also recommend that it will highlight any wear in suspension components which may become apparent in unusual handling and road manners (such as tramlining and bump steer)

Hi Dave, I have Porsche Sports Design 19s on my 996 Turbo (19x11 ET51 with 295/30s rear, 19x8 ET57 with 235/35s front as recommended). I had a few problems getting them to fit, but I now have them set up nicely. The rears are not really an issue. I just added a 5mm spacer and longer bolts to adjust to the new offset correctly. The front however, proved to be more difficult. The correct size spacer to adjust the offset is 7mm, but a 7mm spacer didn't really give me much hub to be able to get the wheel on. I tried it anyway, but experienced rubbing when turning on full lock at slow speeds and when turning at above 70mph. I then added additional screws through the wheel arch liners to pull them closer to the radiators in order to get more clearance (about 5mm is possible). The rubbing at full lock stopped, but the rubbing at speed continued. I then tried a 5mm spacer. If anything the rubbing at speed got worse. After a trip to Reading OPC and having the car on the ramp, we noticed the problem was the inside of the tyre fouling the base of the suspension strut when under pressure. The downforce on the front of the car at high speeds had been causing this. I then fitted a set of 12mm hub centric spacers with longer bolts. This has pulled the wheel out far enough to prevent the fouling. Works fine and no issues at twice the speed! ;-) However, if I had bought a 30 profile tyre for the front in the first place, I would probably never had experienced the problem anyway! Hope that helps! Neil.

But you might well have had issues with the PSM with a reduced diameter.
