New wheels...

I recently bought a 2006 C4S and my alloys are in need of a refurb"¦ I'm tempted to get some new alloys and put on the existing tyres (all pretty new N rated Bridgestones) and then use the older (refurbed) alloys with winter tyres later in the year"¦

I suspect if I go to the local OPC I may need to sit down when they tell me the price"¦ I've looked online (eBay and the like) and 19" turbo (style?) alloys or carrera classics can be had for around £600-800 per set

Question: has anyone purchased after market alloys and have they been ok"¦ or would you steer well clear (pardoning the pun) and only use OEM??

Thanks in advance [:D]

I did something vaguely similar - i bought a set of second hand rims from Chris at Exel wheels with winter tyres on. Although he specialises in refurbishing alloys, he often has the odd additional set knocking around and if you contact him and tell him what you're interested in he'll tell you what he has available etc and can probably swap the tyres over and stuff. You should expect to pay around £1,000 for a set of newly refurbished wheels but his workmanship is first class.

He's a top chap to deal with - first rate service and prices are competitive. No connection, just a happy customer. I cant praise my Sottozeros enough either (the only N rated tyre for 19inch rims).

If you speak to him tell him Andrew from Sevenoaks says hello,

All the best

Didn't hear back from Chris at Exel unfortunately but did manage to find a set of fully refurbished Carrera Classics and tyres on eBay(just about) within budget! Should have them delivered on Monday...[:D]

From recollection, last year Porsche had some decent packages for wheels plus winter tyres (ranging from around £2,300 to £2700).

Given the tyres were around £1,000 for a set (and hard to get hold of) this didn't seem too bad overall, if yolu were going to be paying in the region of £1,000 for a second hand set of wheels anyway...

Hi Sidicks,

Thanks for your post.

Chap at OPC said the 19" alloys were between £4000 - £4500 but could do wheel and tyre sets for less"¦ 19" turbo wheels and tyres were coming in at £3500 and the 19" Carrera classics were coming in at £3300. I ended up paying £995 for fully refurbished Carrera Classics and N-rated Bridgestones all round"¦ means I have a spare set of practically new tyres for the Summer and leaves a bit left in the budget for my Carrera S wheels to be refurbished and to get some Sottozeros for the Winter months.
